Where two are gathered ....

According to the city attorney, two city commissioners may now meet together and talk about city business without it being a violation of the open meetings act.
Of course, three, or a quorum, would still be a violation.
The state league of cities has worked out an agreement with the state press association to further define the law to make this compromise.

The commissioners had wanted to change the city code to allow themselves to do this earlier, but didn't. There was some public outcry against it then.

They still cant vote or make any official decisions, so it's not that big of a deal really.

There was public outcry for a reason, but now it doesn't matter. Now Dottie and Mel can get together and plan how they are going to shoot down Patrick and Joel because the have Scott, who will do whatever they say.

This is wonderful news for Ark City.... NOT!

I would have to agree w/ the poster above. Even though they cannot make "official" decisions, they can come in with a specific game plan. Commissioner A talks with Commissioner B. B talks w/ Commissioner C later saying this is what they need to do,and bingo, an "un-official" decision is made that will become "official" at the next meeting, blindsiding Commissioners D and E, who have been left out in the dark. In reality, this all looks like a small town version of "Survivor", where deals are made, alliances, seeing who can Outwit, Outplay, and Outlast the others. It is all kind of funny to listen too. Too bad it has turned into a political war instead of what should be done for the good of the community.

People, people, people!

Can we not have just one nice thing to say bout the commissioners or does everything have to be negative?

Perhaps they need to be able to get together by 2s, seems there is a problem getting them together as a group of 3 or more.

Perhaps they can bring a little more to the table now. (and maybe we'll all be able to eat)

Do you people realize this was a change at the state level not by our city commissioners? What Nuke41 said about commssioner A meeting with commissioner B and then commissioner A meeting with C is considered illegal. It's actually in today's newspaper. It gives more detail than what was originally reported on the blog.

I'm curious to know how any of this would be enforced, anyway.

Calm down commissioners, don't get your panties in a twist. You know that's what really goes on!

I posted earlier in the day, before the article was published online, and it did explain a lot. So, I did jump the gun about the serial meetings, and shot my mouth off before getting all the facts. Next time I should wait and see before making a comment.

Haha... I am 'so' far away from being a commissioner. Sorry, but I'm just saying as a member of the community... "give the folks a chance"

Relax.

Every so often I wish I lived in town so I could run for commission. Being a bit of a sadist I think I would enjoy being ridiculed so much.
