City Commission worksession

I have a question for Watters:

Apparently some of the elementary schools have specific restroom breaks and if a child needs to go to the restroom outside of those specified breaks they are told "no" and the child trys to hold on until the next break but ends up having an accident because they can't wait that long. Do you think this is an acceptable policy within the schools?

What does this have to do with the worksession?

JJ on the road work from the tax incentive plan 15th street was named but, and I say but all the roads theat were mention that night were suggested projects from the tax revenue by the director of street and parks Mr. G.B., in hisa presetation he only suggested several projects and I believe that a panel should be formed to look at all the streets for traffic and saftey to prioritize any project other than Ks Ave!.

Sounds like a mistake I bet the teacher will not make twice.

That cannot be real. That can cause a serious medical problem if a kid tries to hold it too long. Not to mention the ridicule a kid would get if they had an accident in class. Please tell me this isn't true. I smell a lawsuit if it is.

There are also kids smart enough to work the system. They know if they "have to go" they can get out of anything.
So its a judgment call.

Exactly what is it they are getting out of? Class for 5 minutes? Sorry, we have had two situations this year with "accidents" because a seven yr old was denied access to the restroom outside of the specified restroom break. Do you have to use the restroom at the same time everyday?

It's true. Happened to my kid 3 years ago. Kindergarden.

I would be severely pissed if this happened to my kid. No pun intended.

It's pretty sad that a seven year old is not allowed to go to the restroom when he/she has to go. I hope you told your child to ask once and then just get up and go the next time.

I guess if a teacher/principal has a problem with that, they can contact you and explain why they are not allowing your kid to go to the restroom.

When I received my teacher training I was told up until a certain age you had to let the kids go to the restroom or you would get in trouble.. Then at a certain age you had to let all of the girls go to the restroom whenever they wanted or you would get in trouble.

I don't understand what this school is doing. They give each child a "reward card" when they do something outstanding and if the child has to use the restroom outside of the scheduled restroom break, the "reward card" can & has been taken away from some of the children because they had to use the restroom or they are just told "no", they cannot use the restroom.

I think rewarding a child for doing good in math or reading is great but taking their reward away as a punishment because they had to go potty? I also think telling a child that they can't use the restroom and make them hold it until the next restroom break is wrong!
