let's be civil

Hey folks.
This is an important debate that needs to happen.
I think this is a good format for it I believe.
It does seem that it is getting a bit personal though, and a bit too rough.
Go ahead and say what you want, but lets also try to be civil and respectful of others who have different views.
The internet does give anonymity, and that makes it easier to be hostile and perhaps more aggressive.
Just asking that you keep these things in mind as you post.

If anyone is seriously doing anything about a recall, please get in touch with me.

RIGHT ON! Let's all be civil!
I think our downtown is service minded, caring and I want it to be fruitful!
I certainly don't agree with any of the nasty attitudes, slander, and cursing by citizens. I can't begin to express how many ways of wrong that is.
In that same breath the representative government is unbecoming to our businesses claiming they support us when they display nasty attitudes, slander and cursing while conducting public meetings.
The law of governmental authority is that the followers always do in excess what a leader does in moderation.

The saddest thing in this situation, people, is that you all must realize: In order to move forward there are always some risks involved. However, if you are happy with the current living situation, the economy in 'Ark' City, and are unwilling to change... guess what... you'll have just what you have, and nothing more. I, for one would like to see a 'tad more' progress.
(you can't just 'dress up' the exterior, people you have to work on the heart of mankind) I hope that soon this will happen and we can move forward.
Thank you for the opportunity to express myself, and please take notice, no name calling, no slander, and no cursing. PEACE

how can we be civil and make our selfs heard? We tried to let them know how we felt and they did not listen. i dont think yelling at the top of our lungs would have got us heard. what can we do to make them listen and still be civil?

Do you call packing the room with heritage club members to hoot and holler and clap fair? They purposely tried to manipulate and sway opinion in an inexusable way.

Keep talking. Show up for every meeting. Ask for copies of everything.
Read all the information.
A lot is available on their website. www.arkcity.org

Read up and know your stuff.
Speak at the public comment time at the beginning of the meeting. That is different from a public hearing.

One observation.
The commission pays more attention to people who have stuff written down, and who have specific proposals in writing.
When you go to speak have something in writing to hand out to them (and hand me a copy too:) )
They sit and politely listen to people who just talk, but they do seem to take more seriously people who have specifics and in writing.

That will get you listened to.

It seems there were a lot of people speaking out. How many petitions were there and how many signed them? Shouldn't that be public information? How many people got ignored? The Traveler should make that public somewhere because there is no way the city is going to do it. Now that the commissioners don't have to worry about who they were representing or how it will come out we should at least be able to see how many of us went the extra mile. How many people pitched in to be heard.

For the record, I never said a recall would not work. I believe it is possible. All we have to do is get the right information and show how the commisions decision has adversley affected our community in a harmful manner. It can be done if enough people will stop being hot headed and start fact-finding. Do your reserch and prove legally that what they did was wrong. The majority of those who were at that meeting said they were for the City tqaking the next step in a five step process. The majority of the people want change and stated they wanted new business even if it competed with downtown merchants. For years, I have heard the Chamber and others talk about keeping our money local. The commissioners voted against this concept when they voted no. Furthermore, the city received a grant which is funded by tax payers for the downtown renovations. This was to make Ark City more attractive. Everyone said they wanted to attract new business but no one wants to pay the price to get new business. It takes money to make money. A recall is possible, we can get the information we need and we can make a difference.
