Music

We had a good time at the music show last night. We ended up with six performers. We had around 50 people show up, not counting the musicians.
It was at Calvary Chapel.
I thought the musicians we really good. Some of them I had not heard before.
Next show is May 15 at Wilson Park.
Our schedules change from time to time, so keep that in mind.

The music festival had a booth at the cowley county marketplace thing saturday morning. It displayed things made, and things to do, in cowley county. There are lots of interesting things here.

The legislators were also there. They talked about the budget and how there is this huge shortfall in finances. There will have to be some big cuts in 2010 budget.

More store robberies last sat night, I hope you starting to see that our police department is a lame duck, with a PD chief more interested fame and telivision appearances than cleaning up the Gangs, come on Shawn get over the stigma of fame and start cleaning up the gangs we are tired of them here

Delphia or Teresa are both great pianists & great piano teachers.

Speaking of finances, laid off workers from Cessna have been waiting 6 weeks for unemployment checks. They are being told the state is behind. Is that true, or are they just broke? They haven't even seen the big wave of unemployment yet. Scary.

Where can a guy get double wall insulated pipe and service in this town? I was helping a friend dry wall and roof his house this weekend and we needed a flashing and a storm collar. We went to Westlake and Orscelens and both place had a kid roll his eyes at us and take us to 3 inch double wall pipe for a water heater. One of the stores even had a local man who had charged up a bunch of stuff and never paid for it at other local stores working there. Interesting. We then decided we needed to run to the all mighty Lowes because they have it all right? Once again we had to ask three people we were apparently insulting by asking for help where to look and were taken to a corner of the store that had garden hose before being dismissed with a simple "Huh, guess not". Is this the service and selection I have always heard about? Guess we should start warning roofers not to roof houses with wood burning stoves except between September and February.

Is that SOUR GRAPES I smell?

I bet Bryants carried what you were after, right.

or not. You didn't have much of anything, and that's why you went out of business.

So, basically what you are saying is you couldn't find what you needed from the worthless businesses in town, who employ thieves BTW, so you drove to Ponca to Lowe's.

Can't get much better than that. Now we just need Curtis Eaton on here badmouthing our town and saying he shops at Lowe's too.

I have had a couple of people at Lowe's who were very helpful and knowledgable. However, most have no clue and I usually leave disguisted with their service. I have never had a problem at Ace, though. They are my helpful hardware place. You will pay more, though.
I love the guys at Wood's. They are always friendly and helpful.

Burglars strike four businesses

By FOSS FARRAR

reporter@arkcity.net

"Burglars broke into four Arkansas City businesses early Saturday, taking a small amount of money, mostly change, and some products at the stores, police said.

The break-ins were reported at Rakie's Oil Company, Greendoor LaFamilia Restaurant, Jim's Total Service and Fix Rite Auto Repair.

Arkansas City Police Chief Sean Wallace said in a press release today that the thieves probably were looking for drug money."

______________________________

Wow, that was poorly worded. Makes me think that those businesses have drug money stashed in them. How about "Chief Wallace speculated that the thieves were after money to buy drugs."

I have been on unemployment for about 2 months and was on it about 4 years ago too. It usually takes about 5-6 weeks for them to get started. They will have to have a phone interview first. The people laid off need to make sure they do everything they are supposed to for the state. It is a pain to get started. I have been getting my payments OK lately so I doubt they are out of money. You would here of big issues if they were as many are unemployed right now.

he wants to tout drugs drugs drugs to promote the Drug sniffing dog routine.

What was he touting when he purhased 10,000 dollars worth of toy rubber ball guns.. oh yeah that was training for swat, do you know we are spending over 145,000 a year to put cops in our schools because of the wild notion that we are going to have a columbine experiance,, its tax dollars whither it be grant money or otherwise

Unemployment, huh? Must be rough. Sack up and get a job. The fact that you are an expert on the subject is pathetic. Didn't you learn 4 yrs ago that your semi-skilled blue-collar job is very expendable? Learn a marketable trade and get to work.

I see republican people.

Some of you people are ruthless.

Jobs are scarce. Wages are low, layoffs are on the rise. And yet, some of you people refuse to acknowledge that hard times are here. No, everybody is NOT lazy.
Some are having a very hard time, and all you people can do is harp on unnecessary ill-attitudes.

Compassion would be nice, although I think some of these posters have no idea what it is.

And as for the robbery remarks, I sure hope that they don't get carried away with the 'people bringing in large amounts of coins for purchases', cause I been saving my nickels, dimes, and quarters for a while. (oops, forgot about the rolls of pennies I got)

argh......you people make me tired.

Ummmmm....I thought this thread was supposed to be about the River of Life concert last Saturday evening. I was there, too, and had a great time. Looking forward to next month's concert. Good job, James.
