Instead of the three Amigos we will now have the three Putin Boys. Seems like the money always buys the seat, kinda like the Russia deal HUH (PUTIN PUTIN PUTIN) nad less power to the people of GOO OLE AC

Its a great day for AC. Now we might have a chance.

looks like the amigos' amigos got the 500-600 votes they counted on. They did not count on an extra 5-7% turnout who were obviously sick of the amigos shenanigans. It's also apparent the majority of this board are amigo supporters who are and will continue to be as stubborn and bitter as those they support. It's also interesting to review the posts and note which side is more literate. Now I see why the hospital vote had to go down tonight. One final BTW...where exactly is Rice going to get off. Does she realize she's being laughed at like Margie was?

Boy, there must be a lot of sour grapes from the establishment for JJ to have to delete those posts.

What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall at Kuhn, Smith and Morgolius' house tonight.

You should have listened to the people!

He turned into quite the apologist at the end, didn't he?

Well there is a majority now. Vote in the TIF see if Lowes will come and then if they do see if they will stay.

I will keep pushing this just like it was pushed the other way. You said you were going to actually stand up this time a say something Pat, so do it. Lets here you. Bring in the all mighty savior that is the box store. If it was so good for them then, they will surely build it now right.

It will not cost us anything if they fail right? I am sure they will pay us back for running all the amenities there.

Do now what you said you were going to do, please.

If money bought the seat, Scott would have won. Let's give these people a chance BEFORE you tear them up. We need, as a community to quit the back stabbing and the smear tactics.

I want to see some respect brought back to my community by the leaders. I want these people to work to unite and move us forward. That will be a big order but I think it can be done if we give the five of them a chance.

Anonymous said...

You don't understand, we weren't fighting to get a big box store. That is not going to happen. At least not for a long time. Not the way Kuhn treated the liason that was here before. And now with the economy the way it is.. The point is, we weren't voting to get a store brought in, although that wold be nice, we voted to show that when you ignore the will of the people, the people ignore your will to be re-elected. I think we showed that. The rest would do well to remember it.

Power to the people!

YIPEEE The new amigos will bring Lowes....will they start building in the fall??? WOW WOW...I am so excited! This is such great news for Ark City! We can now fight Mr. Kuhn and Ms. Smith at their own game...we can gang up on them!!! This is a "New Day" for our community! Rejoice!

It doesn't matter if it was the Lowe's or something else.

You don't have to look too hard to see the commission on an autonomous power trip, with no respect for the will of the people.

Lowe's and ignoring ("losing?" give me a break!)a 400 signature petition, the crash tax, etc, etc.

The economy is in the toilet now and there is no chance of a Lowe's or anyone else coming in to Ark City for a while. But the issue is: when a Lowe's or a Cessna does come, will the city commission be doing the ignorant "deer in the headlights" reaction they have done in the past?

Change is good, especially when the status quo looks like it has.

COMING SOON TO THEATERS IN ARK CITY: Roger B's production of the THREE STOOGES", staring Jay W as Moe, Pat M as Larry and Jean S as Curley. Special appearance by Jim ACI S as Curley Joe.

If they go ahead with the TIF, I hope they bring in industry to that piece of ground. It is a great place for an industrial park and jobs are needed. Also, would like them to keep on track with the rail projects.

It will be interesting to see if Pat turns sides on the window ordinance. I have a feeling this will be the first thing reversed. I just hope that if they do, they do it for all and not just their buddy downtown. Don't forget the little people who voted.

Traveler Editor said...

The TIF is dead.
I doubt it will be back anytime soon.
I would also bet that the windows ordinance will not be touched.
None of the commissioners, and none of the candidates, said anything about not liking the windows ordinance.
just my observation.

"Don't forget the little people who voted"

Well it is all happiness right now but the first time this three votes against or for something that they think is in AC's best interest then all these people will be back to the name calling and saying they will get them out of office. I hope they enjoy it while it lasts because within the next year they will be in the same boat as the other commissioners right now. They will forget who voted they always do! McDonald will make sure his vote stays on the "good" side because he doesn't have his own opinions or ideas...he just feeds from someone else! I wish them well and hope they can help our city come to terms with their loss of the store and we can move on already!

Did I notice some sarcasm in that statement?

Yes you did!

"You don't understand, we weren't fighting to get a big box store." Yes. Yes you were. It has been the topic ongoing since it happened. Look at the blog yesterday. What was the topic? The big box. It is the story.
I was at the meeting for Lowes. There were just as many people speaking against it as there was for it. I went into that meeting to learn and make the choice for myself.

"Not the way Kuhn treated the liason that was here before." If you were at the meeting as I was, you would have seen what happened. The developer was being questioned, and was dancing around the question. At one point he did not tell the truth. It was all in relation to going to Winfield first. I will totally agree, it was not handled professionally, but the guy was a liar. Plain and simple. He was up there to sell the spot no matter what, and he got caught. So yeah I guess if any other developer plans to come here and lie and blow smoke up everyone’s butts, it would be a deterrent.

"Lowe's and ignoring ("losing?" give me a break!)a 400 signature petition" Because 400 people is a majority of the city right? Just like the large ads with signatures in the paper that I saw, I am sure some of the 400 signatures were double signs also. Go back and look at the paper adds. They are there. By the order on the sheets, it is easy to tell that they were all cycled around together to be signed. That makes it even harder to get a double signature on there unless it is on purpose. Yes, I love details. I look at these things.

If the TIF was such a good deal a year ago then it should still be an option in the future. It would have probably been finishing the construction if it would have happened mid to late last year. So if would have been great then, it should be ok now right? No way could it have been the wrong time to build, and it not make it. Even if it would, Pat says we would not carry any of the bills for it, so it is all good right? Pat is always right. Streets, plumbing and all that cost nothing to run to the site.

Speaking of Pat, I agree with the other poster. Now that you are back in, let’s see you make a stand on something. Let’s see you come up with something. Get off the coat of others.

No, we weren't voting to try to bring a big box in. We are smart enough to know that that is in the past. What we did was send a big message that you listen to the people, or you get ousted.

OUSTED! Kuhn and Smith are next on the chopping block. Unless of course they do something really great in the next two years. Saving a kitten from a tree? Maybe pulling old people from a nursing home fire.. that might do it. Short of totally changing the way he treats and bullies people, I don't see much hope for Smellicious Puhn.

Yes, the people have spoken and we have new blood on the commission. I have said it several times, Scott, Mel and Dottie should enjoy their first term on the commission because there will not be a second. And.....after the people spoke yesterday by voting, I hope they see the writing on the wall. I totally agree with the poster who said, if you don't listen to the people, you do not earn a chance to serve. I wish nothing but the best for our new commission. Let's all get behind them and watch Ark City GROW!

Anonymous said...

This is what you get when only 1 out of 7 voters gets out to vote. You get what you deserve. Hopefully the new crew will bring more than just words and will stand for something instead of just being against Mell and the results of the big hoax vote.

Anonymous said...

So everything the commision does shoudl go to a city vote? That is what you are saying. It woudl be the only way to do everything like the majority wanted. Come on people lets get realistic here a second. You can not have a majority vote on everything that happens. You vote people into the office to have them yes listen to people, but then make educated decisions. You vote for someone in hopes that they would do things as you thought they would be done. Unless you had a vote for every issue there would be no way to tell what the true majority was. Some Infulent people in town could get kill your first born passed with 100 signatures if they wanted. Does that mean that is what the true majority wanted, or just the few sqeeky wheels? Sometimes the answer would be yes and sometimes it would be no. They have to make decisions. Hold them accountable for them, but you can not greese the sqeek on every issue, because the sqeek might not be the right choice or the true majority.

I totally agree. They have the majority now. Do what you said you would do. Lets see the huge growth. If it does not happen, they should be held accountable.

"O no!!!! it is not about the big box!!!! It is not about Lowes!!!!"

Whatever you want to believe. It is about that. The grudge is there. So fix it. Build that damn thing. I can be what JJ topic will be the next time the councel vote comes up again. "Remember the bix box?" It is about that.

I have been in this town and worked downtown long enough to know that a proposal like the one from the developer does not come overnight...it does not come in a year...not in five years. We may get another shot and we may not. The point is that IF it comes, let's listen before we shoot and that is why this commission is here. We need to rebuild the bridges that opened the first doors and see if we can't listen to the entire proposal this time.

I love it! HA! HA!

The Lowe's deal may be dead, but I do not see why a TIF is completely out of the picture. Lowe's may have never been a done deal the first time around. I just wonder if a TIF for developing an industrial park may be a good plan for AC future.

Go ahead and develop the land, run the utilities and be in a position for new jobs.

Anonymous said...

"it does not come in a year...not in five years. We may get another shot and we may not."

excuses excuses
these lame ducks and their lackies are already backpedaling

Doug Russell got it done in less than 2 years after he got to his new location. are you saying he is smarter than the new ACI heroes?
they aren't the only developers in town either

I think the point of the TIFF was to run the utilities out there. Running it now would definitely be taxpayer money.

to: April 10, 2009 10:37 AM

After the way Kuhn ran the other developers out of town and embarrassed us all, how soon do you think anyone else would want to come back?

Anonymous said...

"Doug Russell got it done in less than 2 years after he got to his new location."

Yet another way that Kuhn and Smith set our town back a decade... running off Russell.

Traveler Editor said...

The grudge is what needs fixing :)

Anonymous said...

We just fixed it. Things will be much different from here out. Just wait till the next election when Kuhn and Smith are up, and it will be fixed even further.

They might as well not even run again.

Anonymous said...

Interesting idea - fixing a grudge. Kuhn, Margolius and Smith are the ones that need to do the fixing. The grudge could disappear if they listen to us. If they continue to decide what is best for us ignoring what we want or not asking us then they are the ones building this grudge. We have fixed Margolius. Too bad we can't fix the others.

The people who voted against Scott most likely never watched the commission meetings, attended them or checked his voting record. They listened to BS stories and followed uneducated regurgitated little smears like '3 amigo's'...JJ- please tell us- who started that? And what does it really mean? I would greatly appreciate the enlightenment because I don't think Scott was in Dotty or Mel's pockets. Please explain the reasoning so that I do.

Anonymous said...

Does it matter the number of items voted for or against? I think not. What matters is which items they supported each other on. The ideas and concepts that they did agree on. Rejecting the population to protect a few businesses. Saving money and cutting services on things taxpayers want. Making decisions on what they believe the people of Ark City should have instead of giving people what they want. That is how they became a controlling group, but I do not know who named them.

Anonymous said...

But you don't get it- they were not a controlling group- while they ran together in some decisions (which happens with any council) they also differed a great deal.

Anonymous said...

But the decisions they ran together on were the clinchers! That's the point! If Scott had differed from the other 2 in a handful of key issues he would not have been clumped together with them. But he chose to ignore the majority of voters to do what he/they thought was right. The majority of voters has since expressed their opinions and Scott will no longer be a commissioner.
