Cops

I went to the training exercises for the police and school officials Saturday at the Arkansas City Middle School.

It went fairly well according to Chief Sean Wallace. They learned some things that they need to work on, and found out what worked and what didn't work.
I can't tell you all the details because we don't want to tip off the crooks and bad guys.

Generally, there were some communication issues. That was complicated a bit because the 911 system as not used. That had to be kept clear just in case there was a real emergency.

Logistics, as far as getting people around and in position, went really well.

They went through several scenarios. They had a shooter randomly shooting people. The shooter took hostages in another scenario.

Ive heard that some people criticized this exercise as a waste of time, or inviting criminal activity. That's about the most ludicrous thing i've ever heard.

Can you imagine someone walking by the school and saying "hummmmm, the cops are practicing how to stop violence, I think I'll go shoot someone and see how it works."

The naysayers will always be around I guess, but some people need to get a hobby, or a life.

I'm not going to bother explaining why this was a good idea. If you have a grain of common sense, you know.

I hope that they never need to use their training, but I'm glad they will be somewhat ready if necessary. I am sure the people of Columbine didn't think they would ever have that kind of situation either.

I do have a grain of common sense, and you can what if all you want, but if something like this is going to happen, well, it's going to happen. Just like the governments terroist alerts, etc, you can's stop these acts because for one you can't predict them. Sean Wallace also wants a SWAT team here in Ark City, at the taxpayer's expense, and how STUPID is that??? One commisioner even told me he will not stop pushing till he gets it-why in the world would any small town such as this need a SWAT team????? Give me a break. The police here have the biggest budget in the city, the new commisioners are trying to reign them in, but Mr. Wallace is throwing a fit about it. The police here get new vehicles every 2 years, they sell the others with only 60-70,000 miles on them? WHY?? They don't do car chases and such here, this small town doesn't need big town police items, there isn't enough large criminal acts going on to warrant the spending the police department has done and wants to continue doing. They don't need PT Cruisers, Magnums, Blazers, etc. What they need is bicycles like they have in other towns, then maybe our cops wouldn't all gain tons of weight, and maybe they could actually catch a criminal in a foot race like they should be able to-they should be doing more fitness training and should be required to mantain physical fitness in order to remain on the force!!!

You talk mighty big for someone afraid to put his or her real name on the post.
We do allow anonymous posts, but I will say, i don't respect them nearly as much.

Truth is ..
The local cops do want to join a REGIONAL SWAT team that would be shared among several cities.
It wouldn't cost any individual city all that much.
Im sure it will be discussed by the commission at some point.

This post seems like an angry man to me, but has very little in the way of facts or reality.

Are there any specifics that you can talk about?
That are based in actual provable facts?
