opportunities

Here are some opportunities to get involved with city business this week.
Tuesday, 6 p.m., at Bricks, the window committee will be meeting. Mostly it will be the committee talking, but there may be some chances for the public to chime in.

Two public hearings on goals.
here is a link to the goals.

Should be a no brainer for the
committie. While they are at Bricks, just step out the South door and look at the building across the street to the North...

The commission choked. They came in wanting only glass in windows and came out wondering what other material you could put in a window.

They had it all set for downtown and residential. Unfortunately too many commissioners thought we don't need to clean up town.

So here we are. Most of the commission has already given the game away. Now they have created a committee to see how much people can get away with.

Don't worry folks. We'll have plywood and tin windows for a long, long time.

glass is pretty cheap really
just as cheap as plywood.
the city needs to stand its ground.
if they dont they will lose a lot of respect.

you know, some peoples property is not kept up not due to the fact they dont want to but due to the fact living around here most wages are low and people are barely getting by, they simply live paycheck to paycheck and their rent or payment is all they can do. AND FOR SOME REASON ITS OKAY FOR THE CITY TO WORRY ABOUT EVERYONE ELSES PROPERTIES WHILE THEY IGNORE THEIR OWN. GO LOOK FOR YOURSELVES AND YOU WILL SEE THEY HAVE LET CITY HALL LEAK LIKE A SEIVE FOR YEARS AND SOON WILL TELL YOU ITS CHEAPER TO BUILD NEW THAN FIX IT, THEIR WATER AND WASTEWATER PLANTS ARE ALLOWED TO FALL APART, THEIR STREETS ARE ALLOWED TO FALL APART, STORM SEWER WATER MAINS FALLING APART AND YET IT IS OKAY FOR THEM TO DO THIS, BUT NOT THE CITIZENS. THEIR EXCUSE IS NO MONEY OR NO HELP, WELL SOME CITIZENS ALSO HAVE LITTLE OR NO MONEY. UNTIL THE CITY STARTS DOING WHAT THEY SHOULD, THEY SHOULD LEAVE THE CITIZENS ALONE. LEAD BY EXAMPLE OR DONT LEAD AT ALL. WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH ALL THE MONEY ANYWYA CAUSE I DONT SEE THEM SPENDING ANY EITHER

I have a queston? Why is there some businesses that are in the city limits but aren't considered taxed and like the city should be taxing them? For example....Skyline? The Viola building? The old trailer factory on north Summit? All of these places could be paying tax like all of the other people but are paying tax as if they were located in the county. I can see maybe giving Skyline a break as they do at least contribute finacially to the comunity but Viola should pay the same tax as every one else if he isn't going to hire people and contribute. Same goes for any other business in the city limits that gets a break on taxes. Don't believe me? Check into some of the businesses in town.....

Where do you get this tax info and Viola doesn't even operate that building any more.

There are several properties that are not in the city limits. Skyline is not in the city limits. The Sybrant warehouse and Good Times Productions are not in the city limits (kind of like an island with city all the way around). There are several other places that are surrounded by city, but are industrial islands that don't pay city taxes. Hmm, the same people that don't want windows? How do they get away with so much? Telling the commission what to do and what not to do?

why not annex all of those islands and take the money and set it aside to be used for the windows and other improvements?

Getting harder and harder for a town to annex.
You cant just do it.
lots of hoops to jump through.

but it is a good idea :)

If there isn't glass, it isn't a window. Is it?

Anonymous said...

depends on which property owner you ask, or commissioner that's working for them....

Does Viola still own the building? And if he does...does he pay less tax because it isn't annexed? That was the question....I think the way they get away with so much is politics...when you make the rules it is easy for them to go your way.

if you are not in the city limits, you do not pay city taxes.
