city commission

Here is what is on the city agenda tonight
meeting is 7 p.m. at city hall
open to public

PrairieFest could move downtown if it gets approval from the City Commission at its meeting tonight.
The festival has been held at Wilson Park for many years. Organizers say they want to help revitalize the downtown area as well as give the arts festival a boost.
The move would require that Summit Street be closed between Central and Chestnut Avenue June 4-7.

• Consider an ordinance amending Neighborhood Revitalization District and authorizing interlocal agreement.
• Consider an ordinance modifying municipal code to clarify that property maintenance violations go to the City Commission.
• Consider an ordinance amending the budgeted pay plan for 2009.
• Consider a resolution authorizing a change order on the Chestnut Avenue underpass project.
* Consider authorization of the equipment reserve fund use for multi-year purchase of budgeted mini-excavator for the environmental department.
• Consider a resolution authorizing agreement with KDOT for construction work on intersection improvements at US 77 and US 166.
• Consider mayor’s appointments to city boards.

What are the budget cuts going to effect and when?

Looks like to me they want to limit the use of the Rotunda at the park since the Bank put so much money to fix it up, SHAME they don't want to hold the fest there one more year to show it off!!!!!

its the prairiefest people that want to make the move.
rotunda is still available for public use.
not sure what budget cuts you mean?

Can Anyone tell me why the city keeps plowing McCall's Hill? The end of a city tradition!!!!!

Sorry, not a native of Ark City. Where is McCall's Hill? Heard it is/was good sledding ground, and somewhere east of Summit by Radio Lane? Been here 5 years and haven't really found a good sledding hill for my kids.

OOps, sorry, better do it commission...grrrr.

You can also turn by the old Pizza Hut, and then go bout a block and turn right, keep going...you just found McCalls hill. May not want to try it today.

I hope this will help the prairiefest. It was really big for a while back when the college was helping with the $$$. The arts have a tough time when the economy is bad like it is now.

Moving the Prairie Fest dowtown is a dumb idea.

Detouring traffic for three days?

How are the tents and displays going to be set up since you can't put a stake into the street?

Downtown businesses will lose customers because you won't be able to park uptown...

etc etc.

Just leave it at the park.

City street cleaners,

Stop scraping McCall's hill and concentrate on the streets that actually matter, like busy intersections. How many accidents could have been avoided if you'd been working on streets that mattered instead of ruining an Ark City tradition that goes back longer than I have been alive.

that is odd, they usually don't blow much else other than summit. But they are very good at driving around in their trucks with the blades up.

I saw them out today sanding some slick areas after that freezing rain this morning. I think they have done a great job this time and I really appreciate what they have done.

My family quit going to prairie fest (art in the park) when they decided it was such a big deal they started charging for it. I think it really shows how bad it is hurting if they are moving it down town....kinda like shoving it down people's throats.

hmmmmm
does that mean you would not go to our river of life music festival if we charged for it ?

Does anyone know the intention of the three city council members whose seats are up for re-election? Will they refile?

All say they have not decided.

I would guess at least one will not :)

Thanks JJ! That is what I was thinking as well. Are there any contenders that might step up?

Arleta Rice has been attending most of the meetings. She is a former commissioner.
Just a hunch .... she might run.
