ark city softball

Arkansas City High School softball team won big tonight.
They are headed to the state tournament.
The score was 11-1 when I left, and they were in the bottom of the last inning, so barring an amazing comeback, the Lady Bulldogs should have won.
There was a pretty good crowd.
Im glad we passed the school bond issue.
This team has won two straight state titles, and their facilities are ... pathetic, and that is being nice.
But it is better than it was a couple years ago.
But still, the kids deserve better than this.

Now ive stayed away from controversial topics, and no one is commenting. , Or i should say almost no one.

Maybe if it was a team of immigrant religious people who didn't want to clean up their building, that would get people going.

Ouch touche'... Well I don't really care much for sports so that is why I haven't commented before.

If it is not controversial does an opinion need to be expressed?

News is a spreading of information, not a collection of opinions. I, for one, am here to gather information. Some of the opinion is helpful, but mostly this is a place for whiners to express their own opinions.

Put up something to argue about and you have a hit. Put up information that cannot be contested and you bore this particular group.

About the time this blog was discussing the things needed in our area! I ran across an article titled "The top ten cities for young couples starting out to get a job and buy a house". It turned out 4 of the top ten were in Texas.
Skipping down the article it cited that young couples were choosing to co-habitat vs. marriage. While I can't remember exact statisics the numbers had more than doubled in the last ten years. With a divorce rate at 55%.
To continue they did not differnetiate between same sex and
opposite sex couples.
But - they contiuued to cite the problems that arise - neither couple can legally file a tax return as single or married - they cannot or a least find difficulty getting their partner covered by their employers benefits package -
they still must file for divorce in the event they separate and the government is considering mehtods to record them i.e. couples registries. But, as far as i can see there is a battle on who can actually have the regitries.
While we choose as a society to argue without any resolution or answers at all levels national to local. Time marches on!
We insist that things remain the same but they aren't!

there's a controversial topic for sure.
Im not sure i want to get into gay marriage at all on here.
I used to be very much against it. Now I am kind of ambivalent.
But im not sure there would be any point in talking about it here.

How did you get from girls softball, to gay marriage?
Talk about ADD!

Horray for the girls. It goes to show that it doesn't make a great deal of difference where you play, but how you play, and how much heart you put in it.

I sincerly hope that the new complex will enhance the experience of a fine program.

By the way mr editor, did the high school boys baseball team compete this past week end in post season play?

Great news coverage.

the baseball team lost to liberal 3-2 tuesday.
ill have it in the paper today.
they've had a rough season, finishing at 2-19.

they have a good baseball program, just had a lot of bad breaks this year.

sports is news :)

Well the article wasn't about the gay community!
It was more geared to the problems for couples who chose
live together vs. marriage.
If I implied otherwise i apologize!

Good one... love the ADD comment, but even my daughter, who was diagnosed with moderate severe adhd, doesn't even jump around that bad in her thought patterns!

Just goes to show the talent level for girls softball in Ark City. And it all starts down at the Sleeth ballfields when these girls are very young.

I wish we had the same dedication with the football and basketball programs in this town. The tools are there, just a matter of using them.

Yep. It starts in the fourth or fifth grade. Not just playing around, but actually learning fundamentals.
And then practicing them year after year.
At the most successful high schools, for instance, they start football in the fourth or fifth grade. They move up each year in the same system. by the time they are sophomores or juniors, they know the playbook inside out, and are seasoned veterans in a sense.

If you don't have strong youth programs, where fundamentals are stressed, you wont have successful high school teams.

I did see that at the softball game the other night. I just noted that they had very strong fundamentals. Things like standing correctly at the plate, holding the bat, the swing etc., were very sound fundamentally.
