I guess we'll find out if the commission has what it takes to face down the building owners. Personally I think 2 will stand and 3 will cave, but just because it's been that way since the last election doesn't mean things won't change.

I don't think the 3 have the huevos to cave in or pass it or anything. I think it will be sent to committee hell for further review. They will still be deciding this in December.

Either that or they will pass it but exempt everyone who is on Earth today for the rest of their lives.

I think schmidt's should be run out of town for doing what they did. They knew better. I hope they get what is coming to them. Nice people, but this was a bad move on their part. As for who will stand, I can't figure out which two of the three amigos you are talking about who will be likely to stand. In all reality, I would bet all of them will vote the same way on this cept Mcdonald seems to be the most prone to watch which way the wind blows and they might end up with a 4 to 1 vote. just my two cents.

I can't see the 3 amigos doing anything other than what the business or building owners tell them to do. Just like the Lowe's deal. The only hope we have according to the paper is how split the business and building owners are. No telling what will happen if they have to make up their own minds. Or maybe they will bid out and vote for who pays the highest.

just exactly whose pockets are they in and how did they get there? what would the 3 have to gain from listening to special interests in the downtown? could it be that they are doing the will of the people as opposed to the will of the home national powers that be? just because YOU have your nose up the hnb but doesn't mean they are serving whoever disagrees with you. they are serving the people and the city as a whole as far as I can tell.

hard to believe people are still crying in a corner over the lowes issue. that really is an effective strategy to tie 3 people together so you can put your own lackeys in at the next election. please make sure we don't get any more free thinkers. you might get hired on to give your professional opinion about how we can get a hospital built too!

The FREE THINKERS you point out are the people (not HNB employees) who would like to have some decent shopping in this town. Forget the Lowes. Just because we have to go out of town to buy what we need is no reason to bring business to Ark City. Imagine the businesses that would have come with it. OK, so you don't need a dress shop, or a shoe shop, or any number of other things that the rest of us do need. Foget that at $4 per gallon you can afford to go anywhere and buy whatever you want. The Lowe's deal would have brought in these stores that we desperately need. So yeah, YOU THE PEOPLE who can afford anything you want didn't need the Lowe's. I guess that means you the rich get richer and we the poorer get exactly what you will let us have.

So who is paying the 3 amigos? I'm guessing you are. Just to make sure the rest of us can't have the things we need and you can rake in off what we can't afford.

"So who is paying the 3 amigos?"

It is not about money, it is probably about attitude.

With Lowes, the players are as follows:

Commissioner with a heating and plumbing company that would be financially impacted.

Commissioner who has opposed the construction of new apartments before because they would have "amenities" and compete with her rent houses.

Commissioner with no real one-sided interests that should probably be considered a swing vote and may be convinced by rational logic in the future.

Two pro-actively developmental Commissioners.

The "public opponents" were mainly one person who owns an electrical supply house and has financed the hardware store. It made it seem like a lot of folks and companies, but for the most part, it was just one guy. His "spokespeople" and "public support" were paid, especially the lawyer.

2 commissioners have an isolationist attitude. They think they will do better if Ark City residents are forced to do business with them by eliminating other options. Problem is if Ark City economically declines because of retarded growth, they will too. They just don't see that. Not yet, at least.

That is how the cow ate the seed corn.

Too bad, so sad! But you will shop with me because you have no choice. It's either that, or drive to Ponca with $4.00 a gallon gas. I have the last laugh. haha

so, you are saying a payless shoe shop is going to satsify your need for shoes? if we had gotten a fashion bug to come along with the lowe's, that would have satisfied your shopping needs? maybe we could have gotten a lane bryant for all the fat women.

you don't get it do you. this is about the rich people who already go out of town to do all of their shopping wanting a more convenient place to do SOME of their shopping. they won't do it all here. they don't care about the 4 dollar gas. they just want to be able to go up the street to buy their electronics instead of trip to wichita. they weren't going to shop at sparks anyway. whoever is complaining about this being against poor people is way off base. we already have a family dollar store, dollar general, and walmart. that is a poor people trifectaparadise. plus, if they need more money, we have plenty of payday lenders.

as far as the electric supply, they are mostly industrial sales. for those who are buying in quantity and are institutional buyers and electricians, they are shopping at big electrical supply houses in wichita that deliver. those buyers are not lowe's or home depot customers. the big boxes are still focused on retail and homeowner with no huge emphasis on contractors. they have their contract sales departments but they are a joke. no staff with expertise and they charge to deliver and few credit options.

woods is very competitive on bid jobs. sybrant went to lowes anyway to spend his 16k as he said at the forum. the problem is people who have money don't choose to shop locally. of the businesses that would have been affected by the lowes coming in midwest would probably be the least affected with the most bryants and woods. the tiny handful of blohards on the blogs like to keep digging up lowes because of their ulterior motives thinking they can have an affect on people's votes in the next election and then regain the power and control previously held by the power elite. having it or not still doesn't change the fact that it is time to clean up the downtown and those who don't want to can sell to those who will be responsible property owners.

what has ark city industries done for YOU lately?

I don't know how you do it, but I sure wish I could live in a world like yours. Reality is such a boor!

"they charge to deliver and few credit options."

I know!!!!!!!!!

That Lowes card where every purchase over $299.00 is on a promotional basis with no interest or payments for one year. Dammit, I wish they had credit options.

Big giant DUHHHH. People with money shop elsewhere. It is because people with money don't find Dollar General, Salvation Army, Goodwill and WalMart quite good enough for their tastes. Would a Payless be an option for Ark City. Definitely yes. Would people in town shop at more upscale stores. Yes (duhh).

A Lane Bryant? Yes. (and BTW, we just call them women).

Does the electrical department at Lowes completely blow away local electrical supply options. Yes (duhhh).

Is Woods about twice the price on 2X4's? Yes, (duhhhh).

The Lowes was a big power conspiracy to return power from the populist administrators to the powerful elite? What kind of Wacky Tabacky are you in to? Dude......Seriously.

woods isn't 2x the price on 2x4's and that simply shows your ignorance and bias on these types of issues. you don't shop locally so you don't know what they charge. you know what they charge at lowe's because that is where you shop. you should keep hanging out with your fat chick buddies in wichita.
