Russell and reality

We had the story today about city manager Doug Russell being a finalist for the city manager job in Yankton, S.D.
Rumors are flying already. But as of 3 p.m. today, Russell has not turned in his resignation and he has not yet been offered the job.
That's not to say it won't happen though.

We talked with Russell this morning on his cell phone. He is out of town. Plans to be back in the morning and said he would meet with us - the paper - at 8:30 in the a.m.
That does have an ominous sound to it. Usually he just says "Call me tomorrow."
He was driving when he was talking with us so couldn't talk much.

But the city folks at Yankton, S.D. told us this morning that they have not yet made a decision. They really like Russell, but they like the other two as well.  They plan to make an announcement Tuesday at their city commission meeting. However, i am sure there are negotiations happening now, and the candidates may know where they stand now.

We will let you know in the morning if he has resigned by then.
Check out our web site or here.

That's the truth as of this moment.

Guess I can't say I blame him if he wants to leave this messed up town. Probably thinks he walked into a gigantic nut house. Just kidding! ;)

who wouldn't want to make an additional 10 grand next year?

Russell is no longer employed by the city of Arkansas City.

He was terminated on 5-22-08

the 3 amigos are trying to run him out over his views on growth. i really hope that they dont run him out of this town and ruin more than they already have.

you people are either retarded, vindictive or both. Russell is still employed wasn't fired and Cindy Waugh only cuts checks and isn't the hr person for the city. get a life you losers. I only wish the solutions to fix the town were as simple as getting rid of 3 people. Unfortunately, the powers that be are just barely out of control and will certainly seek to regain their influence in the next election. that is clearly evidenced by the onesidedness of the discussions you see here. it comes back to some yayhoo blaming the socalled amigos. ain't it funny that all of the problems that are still here were here long before they were ever on the scene. they deserve some credit for actually fixing some of the bunkus that got handed down to them from all of the incompetant fools and power mongers and spinelss wimps that preceded them.

I've heard that the Ark City mafia got him fired. He wouldn't play their games and was recommending that Sybrant's properties be annexed. Any truth to this James? Also, if Lee Greg runs for commission as I've heard might be the case, doesn't he have to give up his seat on the college board?

you guys are coming up with some wild tales.
actually, he was abducted by aliens back in August when he was on vacation in Wyoming.
The Romulens were wanting too much in ransom. Which is the real reason the Lowe's deal fell through.

Lowe's is actually owned by the Klingons who are having a turf war with the Romulens.
(There is the rumor that he could have been a double agent working for the Romulens, but this cannot be confirmed.)

The Klingons had been trying to influence Russell through gamma-rays from Mars. The Romulens feared what this might do so they captured him and held him for ransom. (Either that or they reassigned him for his own protection.)

Lowes would have given the Klingons control of the corridor heading north, which was a threat to the venetian blinds as well as the Romulens.

Arkansas City has become a focal point in the turf war between three groups of aliens from different planets.
The city is at a cellestial intersection, so control of Arkansas City is vitally important to both the Klingons and the Romulens. So the turf war continues. The venetian blinds remain a third party type of entity, but are a pain in the pointed head to the other two.

In a panic of what would happen if the public knew about russell's abduction, the city hired a standin - stunt double if you will.
The stunt double grew tired of being bashed on the blogs and decided he wanted more money.

The Venitian Blinds in South Dakota were also using gama rays - he was warned to wear a tin foil hat - to give him massive headaches.

Truth is, they have now captured the stunt double and are holding him to try to get some power from the Romulens and Klingons.
They control the upper midwest, north of Nebraska.
This whole saga is their attempt to protect themselves from aliens encroaching on their territory.

They say they are not interested in taking over Kansas and Nebraska, but the Klingons and Romulens are both suspicious.
They both hold the venetian blinds in contempt as beings from an inferior planet.

But the turf war continues. Both the Romulens and the Klingons are trying to use their influences to get one of their own as the city manager.

Whichever side wins, you probably won't see a lot of difference, because the aliens are mostly just interested in control of territory.

The only real danger would be if the venetian blinds were to expand to here. That would bring true chaos, and possibly the end of organized football as we know it.

Because enquiring minds want to know.

Russell was fired yestrday

I bet Newscow.net will have the story today. Ansd the traveler will run it about three days after newwscow.

Traveler Editor said...

if newscow has it today, they will be as wrong as you are.
it would take a special city commission meeting to terminate him. didn't happen, won't happen.
he may resign..

Well, it is true that we are being invaded by aliens. ILLEGAL ALIENS!

who do we appreciate?
The Blinds, man, the Blinds!

You all are hilarious in here! Seriously though, lets get the whole story, before we spread anymore alien rumors!!!

They won't fire him because the previous commission voted to give him a sweetheart deal that would cost the city probably $60,000 since they would be required to give him a severence package.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the previous commission put in that severence package to prevent idiots like the 3 amigos from doing something stupid. They couldn't fire him so they harrassed him into leaving.

They seem to be against his growth ideas, his ideas to lower taxes and balance the city's budget. I don't think they trust him. It's too bad, the city manager seemed to be trying to put things on the right track for progress.... ooooh! Maybe that is the evil word?

What is the purpose of this "blog"?

Is it maintained to inform the community or to provide profit for the newspaper?

The Traveler earns money by selling advertising space on the web blog page. Nothing wrong with that, it is the American way.

However those companies that advertise on the web blog page are charged by the "click". each time a person clicks on the "Traveler Blog" link it counts as a hit. The advertisers are charged per hit.

Normally the advertisers would pay a set amount per month/year etc. so their ad would appear in rotation on the main page. The "blog" ads are charged per click, which leads back to the original question...

Is the blog here to help keep Ark City informed? Or does Mr. Jordan deliberately choose to publish articles guaranteed to draw in more "clicks"?

Does the Traveler put their profits over the wellbeing of the city, by intentionally stirring up discontent amongst it's subscribers?

Traveler Editor said...

Posted it twice eh?
Ive not stirred things up.
People are stirred up themselves. some shaken too :)

Someone is questioning the purpose of this blog. That person with home national ties is right to do so. They don't like feeling the heat. They can dish it out to the amigos through their orchestrated plan of lining up people to do their dirty work on the blogs, but when they get implicated as the real reason behind the problems and dissension they don't like it.

Someone posted "They seem to be against his growth ideas, his ideas to lower taxes and balance the city's budget."

Please state what were his growth ideas other than make aci a lot of money on the project out north. He does not give a flying rip about lowering taxes. He is doing that under the direction of the amigos (all 5 of them). The budget balancing heavy lifting is also done at the direction of the commission, but Archer is the one who makes that happen, not Doug.

It's amazing that someone with no clue at all can tell us how it is done. I don't know how it is with the city, but in every single management issue I've ever seen in my entire life the manager tells his subordinates what he wants and how to do it. Archer has been there long enough he could have done it years ago. I hope the city manager does leave. This town does not deserve him. He deserves much better.

Anonymous said...

This town doesn't deserve someone who is so incompetent. We need someone who can get things done that isn't dictated to him by local bankers.

Anonymous said...

The job requires that he be neutral and do as the commission requests. So is he incompetent, or are you saying the commission is controlled by the bankers?

Make up your mind, you can't have it both ways.

Anonymous said...

He was incompetent because he was not neutral. He was controlled by one bank's bankers and didn't follow the commission's direction.

Anonymous said...

OK, so in what way did the city manager not follow the commissioners direction? And which commissioners explained this to you? If you're going to say it, back it up!

Traveler Editor said...

It's a bunch of garbage.
Im thinking about deleting this string.
The CM has done an excellent job, has followed what the commission wanted whether he agreed or not. He is not controled by bankers or anyone else.
He has also made very positive changes.
Ill go on the record as saying, it will be a huge loss for the city if he leaves.
And if he does, why would any upward mobile professional, with the know-how and energy to succeed, want to come here?

I think the commission should have a special meeting with him and give him what he wants to stay. Not that i know what that would be mind you. :)

Anonymous said...

He won't stay. He will get offered the job and will take it and it won't be the end of the world when he does. He's good but you'll find equal or better.

Anonymous said...

And you know this because you work so closely with him?

Anonymous said...

There is such a wealth of information on these blogs. If you didn't know something before you know it now. You all must be geniuses. None of you are pompous and that is so mollifying. Thank you for your insight and wisdom. I feel so much better about myself and our community.

Anonymous said...

If he leaves, how will he be replaced? By the same people that chased him out?

Where does Ark City go from here? The commission did not approve of the direction he was trying to take the city. Will the commission now find someone to take us in their direction? Against the people, against growth and new business, micro-managing the departments...

Maybe we just don't need a city manager any more.

Anonymous said...

Now you might be onto something. A city manager isn't necessary. We COULD go back to mayoral-led.

Traveler Editor said...

A city manager isn't necessary. We COULD go back to mayoral-led.

Could be done, but it would take some work.
Have to have a bunch of petitions to get it on the ballot, then you would have to have an election.
So then you hire a mayor, who is in essence a city manager ... Then you could complain about the mayor having too much power.
THen you could have another election :)

Anonymous said...

Isn't that the point. No matter the form of government or people in it you will have the same complainers who argue for their own private agenda.
