saturday, windows

We had in the paper this morning that the building owners have quit meeting. They are not going to give the city an alternative measure.
So now the city will have the option of passing its ordinance.
Mell Kuhn is the new mayor and he says he wants to pass it, so we will see.
They change mayors every year.

Should be interesting meetings this week.

Now is the time for the main street association to get started.
Will anyone be brave enough to get it going?

Mell Kuhn has a unique and maybe once in a lifetime opportunity to reclaim the confidence of Ark City by making moves to clean up the neglect in downtown and to move forward toward an industrial and retail plan for Ark City's future.

This is not a time to choke under pressure, Mell. Taking the bull by the horns now and moving the town forward is just what could turn everything around.
Right now could be a "critical mass" opportunity. Don't miss it.

Didn't he have a chance like that with the Lowes debacle? And look how well that worked out!

He did not cast the deciding vote.
He does now have a great opportunity though.

What would it take to form a non-profit organization with the intent of finding oppotunities - like maybe purchasing the old Wal Mart building. Make it a mall or find another use that generates revenue.
Use the profit from the investment to fund other economic improvments
including the renovation of the downtown buildings.
I think Winfield has a similar plan working called WED.
Ark City Industries may already be in place - Why don' they do it
in Ark City.
If you had a main street program the profit from investment money
combined with property owners contribution would help to meet the minimum required for the matching main street grant.

"He did not cast the deciding vote."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't kid yourself. Any time you have a 3 vs 2 vote, every single commissioner on the 3 side casts the deciding vote.

Old Wal-Mart building has already been sold, scratch that off your list.

Cool! I'm glad someone is putting it to use.

The rumor is oscheln's..
local management denies any knowledge and the company itself wont comment.

so either they have really lousy PR or it isnt true.

The sale of a building is a matter of public record in Winfield.

it's wasnt on the books as of last week,
it doesn't become a public record until the deed is done, so just because it isnt there yet, doesn't mean anything.

im relatively sure it is going to happen, but we are not going to report it until its a done deal.

Excellent play on words there, jj.
