Shots were fired

Ok, my bad.
Below is the cop report as the cops sent it to us.
This is the shooting at sleeth, a shot was fired, but i guess i didn't take that as a "shooting."
So i gotta give chief Wallace credit there for trying, and you can slam the editor for not paying attention. :)

On 9/24/08 at about 9:14 pm officers were dispatched to the 1400 blk of S. ‘H’ Street in Arkansas City in reference to a disturbance. Officers arrived and were comforted by several people who stated that Loren Bruner age 45 of Arkansas City had just fired a gun in the street. Dispatchers advised prior to officers arrival the reporting party Loren Bruner stated that he was going to get his gun if the people return. Officer made contact with Bruner, who was very intoxicated. Officers learned that Bruner had in fact fired one shot from a .410 shotgun. He had also pointed the gun at four of the people in front of his house. The cause of this incident was stemmed for a battery that had occurred earlier in the evening with a juvenile.

Bruner was arrested and charges will be filed through the county attorney’s office, Bond set at $ 12,750.00.

Sean Wallace would like to meet with potential volunteers for a Citizens Patrol Group. This is an intro interest type meeting. We will be meeting on October 2 and 7pm in the station's training room. With all of the activity, lately, people have expressed an interest in getting involved.

James, can you please get the word out? Maybe something in the paper?

Did you catch my typo? Sorry! October 2 AT 7pm in the station's training room

This is a very bad idea, extreemism seldom leads to productive countermeasures.

Untrained militias Patroling the streets?
this is crazy,
the first thing you know you have 60 year old out of shape citizens thinking they are going to curtail crime,
Then when one of them falls down on the delapadated brick streets they are sueing the City, oh well

we need to keep these older feble individuals contained in nurseing homes and out of the way so the real cops can do their job

Orgainised street gangs of ARP members is not the answer,,

Mark my words you are just begging for disaster when you attempt idiotic things like this

Nobody is saying anything about groups patroling the streets looking for crime to fight. It would be more of a neighborhood watch type of thing, but maybe a little more proactive. To go negative without knowing any facts just makes you look like you have a bad attitude. If you want to know the facts, go to the meeting.

Yea, I think this guy (or gal) could find a way to be negative about just about anything.
Getting people involved is always a good thing.

What if we take all the money from the new hospital, railroad overpass, football stadium, and the bike path and use it to equip the older volunteers?

I am thinking upgraded Lil'Rascal carts. Armor plating, extra battery for longer patrol range, rifle rack, and lights/sirens. They would also need to be issued a set of roller skates.

If they make an arrest they wouldn't have a "back seat" to put the criminal in while bringing him back to the station. So they could make the criminal put on some roller blades, handcuff the criminal to the back of the Lil'Rascal patrol unit and just pull him along to the station.

To the m. pop poppins post: Ha! Ha! your funny!

To the negative person...what makes you think we are all old people? We're not looking to go out and arrest people, just to be the extra set of eyes for the police. Or do you feel we need more policemen on the force and spend more of your tax dollars? Get enough people together to watch our town and it will be sending a loud and clear message to the criminals that we are watching you. I seriously doubt that the chief is just going to throw a bunch of citizens on the street and say have at ladies and gentlemen.

How did Keeli's comments refer to old people & senior citizens? She didn't say anything about the elderly (and 60ish isn't really considered elderly any more), she said "Citizens Patrol Group" (all interested parties included regardless of age is what I read).

Good job Chief Wallace.

10 sets of eyes are always better than 1.

Key word here is "patrol". Not armed, just people being more alert & watchful.

Dr. Suess liked guns, he was an avid hunter

We already have Ark City Industries patroling the streets. Or is that back alleys? Now with armed citizens we will have one hell of a good time.

I don't know if Ponca City still has it's citizens patrol. But it was very effective. Those who "voluntered" were required to complete a training course, they wern't just turned loose. I think I could probably get Chief Hamm, to offer his experience.
