more windows

Theres a public hearing on the windows ordinance at the planning commission meeting at 6 pm. Thursday.
Right now it is scheduled for the commission chambers, but there had been talk of moving it to either the senior center or to cowley.
This hearing is a legal requirement. Doesn't everyone know how everyone feels about that already? :)

The city hopes this will allow them to zone the downtown buildings so that they can more effectively control how they look.

Good luck with the meeting. I really do hope that they meet a proper 'and' good conclusion.

update the traveler talk forum already!!!!!!!! it's been days since it was updated, and I know I have at least one post waiting to air.

Just turn off the moderation on there and let us have our say. What are you afraid of?!

Why don't they just replace their windwos? For instance, I know that insurance company can replace their windows. Do they want their businesses to look like the projects of NYC?

As far as not posting too negative blog comments, that's plain censorship. It's ironic that a newspaper that uses the first amendment can limit the first amendment on their site because a blogger was too negative. I agree that if a blogger uses foul language that it is up to The Traveler's discression, but if a blogger is too negative, please!!!

the objection is more that people were doing it without putting their name on it.
it doesnt seem quiet fair to be able to throw all sorts of negative accusations at an individual, while keeping oneself anonymous.

I guess I should read closer. Thanks. Can't wait to hear what happens. And by the way KUDOS to Roger Sparks for stepping up and replacing his windows. It's going to look really nice when it is all done. Too bad we dont' have as many downtown business owners stepping up like him!

I've actually heard a building owner complaining about fixing their windows and how they don't have the money...but they sure live in a REALLY NICE HOUSE AND DRIVE REALLY NICE CARS!! Why would you want to own something and not take care of it? And why doesn't their insurance cover it? Did they just spend the money? I'm sure if someone's house was next to their's that didn't take care of it they would complain.

Not all of the downtown businesses have as much money coming in as Roger Sparks either. He must sell LOTS of TVs and guitars.

I believe he does a good bit of business with school around the state.
He has adjusted his business to fit the changing times.

Sybrant's building has been paid for twice over with insurance settlements. Why didn't any of that money make it into improving the building. There are plenty of building owners with plenty of money who just don't see fit to spend it on their buildings.

James who currently owns the old Burford movie house?

Traveler Editor said...

Im not sure who owns it. Maybe the arts council?
Ill check.

The city owns a few buildings and it would like to not own them.

Do you all correct police notes?

Traveler Editor said...

Yes, Of course we do check with the cops to make sure.
Call Jean at the paper.

K, thanks!

Dang I must be too tired, I was thinking today was Friday! Sorry, gotta work again tonight.

Will the traveler pay to video tape this proceeding? This is something that should be preserved for history!

Traveler Editor said...

I see this as just a step.
The city still has to pass it no matter what happens.

How hard would it be to stream the City Commission meetings for those of us who are unable to attend or do not have cable. Internet exposure might help bring more interested parties to the table.

Traveler Editor said...

Im not sure . it might be easy
we are looking for ways to expand our internet.
ive thought of blogging live from there. that would be a trip lol...

the traveler could stream the comission meetings live. and then it wouldn't cost the city (us) a dime.

Traveler Editor said...

Streaming it live on our web site is different than broadcasting it over cable tv.
different audience too.
But it is something we want to check into.
