saturday work

http://www.tonyskansascity.com/index.html

Above is a link to a blog about kansas city. I thought it was cool, though perhaps a tad too racy for Arkansas City. But it makes me think ... what if...

Whats even worse is that I am at the Traveler working on our Progress Edition on a beautiful summer day on a Saturday. So I don't have the best attitude at the moment.
Does anyone read our progress edition?
Do you know what it is ?

I really do like our daily paper. I think we do a good job considering our resources.
But I never hear any comment about our special sections.  Still, i try to do a decent job on them.
The progress edition is the biggest one of the year. We are to be done Tuesday and I think it comes out next Saturday.

Anyways the above blog gave me some ideas about stuff I could do here.
Ok I won't post pics of scantily clad young women, at least not yet.

That link was very scandalous. It contained pictures of very attractive women, had quotes from people talking just as they do at home and had issues with opinions that were not very polite at all.

Do you have any other links to sites that are just as scandalous? Maybe I need to look at them too. ; )

I do give it extra points for its reference to the Flying Spaghetti Monster, particularly in light of Mr. Abrams re-entering a political campaign. I believe you may have seen the Flying Spaghetti Monster referred to in the Traveller blog here many months ago in the quote:

"You may as well depend on the Flying Spaghetti Monster as depend on the City Commission to provide advancement and development for the City of Arkansas City". Or something like that.

As true then as it is today.

Speaking of that, it is now mid june. How are the downtown windows coming? Any industrial plans? Retail development or any plans for them? Or are the commissioners just running around like the Keystone Kops with their tin badges and telling people how to park their cars?

You said you wouldn't let them have a hall pass on Ark City's future.

Yea i could give you some, but then that would be competing with Google :)

I liked the brashness, the irreverent nature of the writer. DId you notice how he took on the mayor and the city council.
Thats easier to do in a large city, but ... i did wonder how that would fly here.

Planning commission meets June 26 for a public hearing on the zoning thing. This is just jumping through hoops, but they are supposed to give it back to the city to vote on the first meeting in July.

THere is the meat market. Quiznos is looking for someone to take over a franchise in that new strip mall.
Thats about all i know of right now.

What am I, a potted plant?

Your blog could go that way if you led it that direction. There is a whole lot that needs discussing about the city and state management.

I thought city management was spelled out in state statute? Not that the commission cared one way or another. Maybe it could work if it were done legally.

Only how this form of govt. works is spelled out by the state. The details are left up to the cities.
Thats my understanding

I think you and the staff do a great job on the paper and I especially like reading the food and health section on Wed. and I like to read the Thinking like a Therapist column since it deals with life issues frequently. The Progress edition is great, bet the carriers don't look forward to it though. ;)
Anyway, in the health section a good possibility might be touching on mental health issues since their is still such a stigma attached to the words mental health. Alot of people don't realize that mental health is being recognized and included as a physical ailment, such as anything from a stomache ache to lupus.....just a suggestion.
