political season could be interesting

Oh my.
Today at noon is the filing deadline for political races.
I just found out that Steve Abrams has filed for state senate, to run against Greta Goodwin.
So that's why he hasn't filed for reelection to the state board of ed.

This could be fun.

Yes, this will be one of the most interesting and exciting political years in our history on national, state and local level! I actually look forward to voting come November! To me, it is a real jaw dropper that Abrams is running for state senate. He is my animals veterinarian for 10 years or better and I had no idea!

Yay!!!!! We are finally going to get rid of the wicked witch.

Really interesting, with Bob Voegele filing against Gary Wilson, we have a choice in that race.

He's my dogs vet.. That's cool. He's a nice man and he's an AWESOME vet!!

I'll never forget the time he came to my house (I was just a kid) to help my horse and I. Somehow, he had managed to get high-centered on top of the stall wall (half-wall) he had tried to jump with his head tied back behind him. He was slowly suffocating. It was one of those "freak deals". However, it took a very large man to get him off. Steve was just the guy for the job. I was very grateful to have him as a vet and neighbor that day!

Being a good vet. does not make anyone a good politician. Neither does being closed minded. . .

That is a good point. You shouldn't be so close-minded as to rule out a good vet being a good politician also. That is what you will find if you open your eyes and lay aside your ill-conceived notions about what makes a good politicians. People who are good to animals mostly are good people. Good people usually make good politicians.

I am glad to hear it as well. She has done nothing for me but ignore me when I wrote to her with concerns. So I am glad I am going to get a choice....and it isn't going to be her. Is anyone running against Kelly? I hope so.

Maybe being a good vet doesn't make a good politician. But lifting a horse off of a stall wall? Come on!!! That is the stuff GREAT politicians are made of.

even more important than being a good politician is being a good representative of the people and a good leader.

The thing that I appreciated most about Steve was that he helped me with a serious problem concerning my oldest daughter. I had contacted lots of people...Squires, Rogers, Snell, Ballard. She was having problems at her school and we didn't know what to do. The problem eventually worked out and she has gone on, but he was very open and we had several conversations via e-mail and phone. To me he seemed very thoughtful and concerned, offered many possible solutions...he wasn't at all what I expected.

The thing about Steve is he is really the anti-politician. He does not wet his finger and stick it in the air to test how the wind blows. He has a well-grounded base of beliefs and ideas that he can articulate and the same beliefs and ideas are articulated regardless of the audience. Most people who do not like him have really never spoke to him and taken the time to listen to what he is saying.

Mr. Editor (James),

Thanks for your blogs. Your comment about a "representative of the people" sparked an interesting conversation at my workplace.

Anyways, we are trying to decide the difference between a Democracy and a Republic. Thank goodness for the internet.

This following excerpt comes from MSN Encarta and it discusses the differences. Below I have posted the address from where this was found.

"Although often used interchangeably, the terms democracy and republic are not synonymous. Both systems delegate the power to govern to their elected representatives. In a republic, however, these officials are expected to act on their own best judgment of the needs and interests of the country. The officials in a democracy more generally and directly reflect the known or ascertained views of their constituents, sometimes subordinating their own judgment."

You may not always agree with Mr. Abrams, but at least you have no problem knowing where he stands.

I appreciate that.
