Ideas

I have updated the idea blog so that anyone can post there.
So I hope the person with the flea market - auction idea will go there and start posting.
It will be a place to exchange ideas.
and to help each other.
I think a flea market thing is a workable idea. You also have the casino traffic, and you might catch some of them.

"Wonder why they would ask the owner to close Avacado to the public? If the land owner doesn't care, then why should it matter to them? Might be a good reason and the only way you're gonna find out is to ask!"

Here is your answer:
It was closed by the land owner because she is 83 years old and can not keep trespassers off her property. You were there illegally! How many of you had a signed peice of paper with her permission on it? NONE of you did, I know this is true because she is my mother. We are tired of cleaning up all the trash, old tires, junk appliances and just plain garbage! Find somewhere else to dump your junk!

Anonymous said...

Well guess you should have posted no tresspassing if you did not want us on the land.

Anonymous said...

We did that many times! And the signs were torn down, the sheriff was called, meth labs were busted, it is nothing more than a headache.

Now that it is closed the city can actually levy fines to enforce our wishes.

Anyway, sign or not, do you randomly go into someones house or property uninvited?

Anonymous said...

Then sell it if it is such a big hassle for the poor little old lady. Anyway, why doesn't she get on this blog and say it herself?

Anonymous said...

That king of attitude is what got you thrown off in the first place you moron!

Anonymous said...

Yeah but the river is public land and we have to have access. The law says the land owner has to grant access to public land. And you are the moron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

What law says that? PROVE IT! There is no law that says you have to allow someone to cross your land to get to a federal/state river.

Anonymous said...

I will call my lawyer!

Anonymous said...

Oh goody I will be waiting in the wings for your all-powerful lawyer to tell you that you are nuts, no wonder she closed the grove...you are all crazy. IT IS NOT YOUR PROPERTY!

I am not writing to agree or disagree with Avocado Grove Owner. What I have to say, however, regards Avocado Grove Owner's decision to deny citizens the ability to draw their own conclusions about the potential for violence that it may be generating. One of the first facts we should face is that I must ask that its advocates present a noble vision of who we were, who we are, and who we can potentially be. I know they'll never do that so here's an alternate proposal: They should, at the very least, back off and quit trying to humiliate, subjugate, and eventually eliminate everyone who wants to extend the compass of democracy to abominable ochlocrats.

Nice big words, now what the hell are ya talking about?

Anonymous said...

neverheard of an ochlocrats

A lady that is 83 asks people to stay off her land and everyone goes ballistic and says they have the right to be there.

She is an older lady and you treat her with your words and attitude like she was the crimnal. I am actually shocked by the lack of respect for an older woman and for her right to keep you off her land.

This is the very attitude that destroys the community. Perhaps, if a group offered to help clean up the land or at the very least police it and work with her she would have been more agreeable.

Give her a break. She is 83 and deserves be to be respected.

I was once told that the land owners next to the river owned half of the river next to their land. Not sure if that is true but I do believe that a solution can be worked but not by using force or threats.

I also thought this blog was about ideas to make the town better. Not sure what threats have to do with that.

Anonymous said...

River access would make the town better, but if the land is owned by a private party, and they don't want you on it, then stay off of it. Simple as that. Maybe you should petition the city or county to open the old sand dunes down behind Total. I spent many a day down there on my 3 wheeler as a kid. Not sure why it closed. Same with the gun range back there. Anyone know why they were closed, and who should be petitioned to open them back up?

Anonymous said...

"Anyone know why they were closed,"
This is an easy answer! the general public forced the closing of the shooting range. people kept tearing it up and the wildlife and parks got tired of it. Can't really blame them. We are our worst enemy.

Wow. It's discouraging to volunteers who work & try to have something for the community and someone comes along and trashes it. Too bad people think it's fun to destroy property. Kids didn't used to be this bad. (probably because they knew they'd get their butts kicked by mom & dad)
nowadays....things are different. The respect of elders and fear of mom & dad are gone.
in fairness, it's probably not all kids, add a healthy dose of demented adults, too.

I guess you can't let that stop you from trying to make things better. Just have to figure a way to protect your stuff from stupid people.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps we can work to make "stupid" people understand that their behavior is not acceptable. If we didn't tolerate the bad behaviors like it was expected and really stood up for the right it could make a difference.

Okay, that may not be possible but we can always hope that the good in people will eventually outweigh the desire to be rude and cruel. Especially if it become "cool" to be a better person with a good attitude toward everyone. Why can't we work for the general good and not the selfish "me" attitude?

Well landowners son, I am the one that asked the question. For the record, not all of us have been on your momma's land. I will say though, that I can't blame your mother for being upset if it is being trashed and finding meth labs.

Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding!
Question of the day!

How many people here knew this was PRIVATE property and not PUBLIC property?

Anonymous said...

i still think its public , i dont believe the mean man posing as her son

Anonymous said...

I was always under the impression it was public land. I believe someone a long, long time ago was given permission. They invited their friends, who brought more friends the next weekend. From there it snowballed. I wish there was a place to play on the river, too. I think it would be a great draw for this town. However, we ARE our own worste enemies as another poster said. The public does not respect the property, and if someone got hurt, I'm sure they would love to win some big bucks in a lawsuit. The liability is probably the main reason no one will ever open there land and the city will not get involved.

By the way, I was told the land owners property extended halfway into waterways if they own the banks.

only on the walnut river

Anonymous said...

for the record
On all federal rivers in the USA all banks of the river are public lands, only on state rivers like the walnut do property owners won the land under the river, the water is still public domain, so do not step your foot out of the boat.

In the case of the Avacado, the owner is not an 83 year old woman, acording to county records.

the sand bars and banks are public domain on a federal river, and access must be granted, however that does not mean open toe four wheeling or motorised traffic.

This kind of place offers young people a place to drink Alcohol and have sex, further more it is out of city limits and the police department cannot patrol it.

WE must not let people think that they can go to this river and have bon fires and drinking parties, the next thing you know they will be haveing satonic meetings and KKK parties, if you want recreation go to the Rec center and sign up for a class in something

Never was it the intention of God to make these kinds of places for you to enjoy when alcohol and sex is envolved,, hmmm ok

Next question is who made the gate that is blooking the drive to avacado?? looks like this was made at the city shop on west madison.

We did have access at Cotton wood park, this was closed by the Public works director because there was some grass damage on the dike,,, by the way this was also a place where satan plied his trade, so it was closed

Kaw wild life behind total was closed because we are tring to correct the drinking problem our young people have.

Quaker Haven was closed because satan was there and maeking the young people have sex in drunken stupers,, some of you may have been conceived there.

as long as some think they are better than others, and lifestyles are controled by the decans bench, four wheeling, bon fires, a beer at the river, catfishing from a sand bar will all be evil traditions stamped out

But let one Christain play a flute on the river bank and the rats will follow him blindly and drown in thier own ignorance

Wonder if our Christain music fest would be looked at any differently if we counted the millions of lives that were ended on this spot and the blood that was spilled so a hungry man could fill his belly and packing house owner could become wealthy/

Nothing more can be expected from a religious community, as religion is not the following of Christ, but the organization of Judgemental hipocrits whos aim is to make them selves appear sin-less

I read that somewhere but there was a lot lost in the Swahilli translation,, and the other translation didnt know i was going to write it

Anonymous said...

we are victims of our selves

Actually, the property line on a river isn't considered the center of the river channel. It is the center of the flowing water. Therefore, it changes with the amount of water. On the water in a boat can't be tresspassing.
Any access by land would be considered tresspassing.
Either way most the farmers will tell you they own the river!

Anonymous said...

and this rule only applies to waters other than federal waters that are navagatble

Might be a good topic for the paper to clear up as people need to be getting this info. For once I agree with the first poster:
