A week from tomorrow is the election.
Have you decided who you will vote for?
Does all the political advertising influence you?
Do you vote along party lines?
I guess you know by now, i am not loyal to either party. Generally i distrust both parties and would like to see other parties emerge. I know, we've always had a two-party system, but its time to change it.
Just because something has always been done doesnt mean its best.
For centuries people went outside to go to the bathroom. That doesn't mean I need to go without indoor plumbing.
I dont even understand being loyal to a political party.
We need to think for ourselves about every issue and not just tote the party note.
It comes down to conservative or liberal. And lets be honest. "Moderate" republicans are just democrats disguising themselves. Its just a "kansas" thing.
We are very polarized along conservative and liberal lines in our country.
A lot of people on both sides will label you the other side if you dont toe the line of their side.
I get called both because I don't go along with either side.
But the thing is, neither side is "right."
Both have strengths and weaknesses. Both are right in some areas and wrong in others.
Isn't it better to think about issues themselves than to just drink red or blue koolaid? :)
The answer is not for one side or the other to win, the answer is for some other parties to emerge. That can only happen if viable candidates emerge and people are brave enough to say "NO" to both the dems and the pubs.
If you had 4-5-6 parties, it would force all the parties to work together.
Liberals and Conservatives would have to work together and neither would be able to gain ultimate power. They would have to come to compromises on issues. They would have to hammer out agreements.
We might even see progress.

hmmm....
I'll think about that & get back to you.
I like red and blue koolaid....
SERIOUSLY!!!!!!
I just think that it would be nice for the 'people' to win for once.

Who are the "people" that you say need to win? I go to work 12 hour shifts so someone else has the right to not work...which one of us are "the people". I pay my own insurance on cars and houses so when a tornado comes or a hurricane someone can be saved by FEMA and because I work I will be ignored. I pay my mortgage, made all my payments but I have to pay more in taxes so someone else can be "bailed out". If Obama wins will he bail me out or if he wins will I have to bail more people out? If my son goes to war who will bail him out. If he doesn't go to war who will bail the country out? I am confused and nothing that the ads, the campaigning or the candidates on any level have said or done have helped me see.
I just want everyone to be responsible for themselves and quit expecting those of us that work to help pay their way. It makes no difference whether we are newspaper editors, doctors, electricians, teachers or restaurant workers we need to be afraid of what is really going on in America. Who will the be the winner? The guy who is irresponsible, never tried to get an education on any level, never held down a real job and hates those who are successful are becoming the real winners. Ironically, we keep letting them do it and this election will give them even more power.
"Ironically, we keep letting them do it and this election will give them even more power."
It won't last forever. It can't. Soon this country will be so awash in the fruits of it's greed, something will have to change. It must. Welfare for lazy people will have to end. Unfortunately, good hard working ones will be caught in the crossfire. Prices have gotten so high, people can't pay their bills. Have to go apply for welfare to get help. So, by default, the government ends up subsidizing businesses who won't pay their employees a living wage.
How much longer can the welfare state exist?
Obama promises not only to continue it, but he promises to write them a check. 40-50% of people pay no income tax at all now. So, what's the answer? Let's just write 'em a check. It's the American way. Something's gotta change. It must.
If Obama raises corporate taxes, do you think your wages will be increasing anytime soon? No! You will just have to get in his hand-out line and let someone else pay it. I just wonder how many are going to get laid off or lose their jobs when he gets done taxing businesses. More jobs going to China!
thought we were just redistributing the wealth...meaning...you work you pay and have money redistributed
Is it just me, or has anyone noticed that the higher Obama gets in the polls, the lower our stock market sinks? Do you think CEO's are looking forward to having their taxes raised? Do you think this will help them show a profit to their share holders?
Shareholders won't have to worry about any profit because they wont get it anyway. Perhaps, everyone should worry because we will all share the wealth or the lack thereof. People just don't get it. We have allowed corporations to send jobs overseas, allowed a few corporate CEO's to take the profits and now we get to bail them out. No one is taking responsibility but quick to point crooked fingers. Promises from any politician are just that - promises and mean little. Change sounds great but not all change is good.
The Tax Poem
Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt .
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his a**.
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
Put these words
Upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me
to my doom..."
When he's gone,
Do not relax ,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middleclass in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What in the h... happened? Can you spell "politicians?"
it just me, or has anyone noticed that the higher Obama gets in the polls, the lower our stock market sinks? Do you think CEO's are looking forward to having their taxes raised? D

The thing is, its happening on Bu$hs Co.,'s watch.
Bu$h is letting it happen.
Cant blame this one on the dems.
Its all greed, all our money is going to the huge oil companies and the huge financial companies.
Bush's economic policies have set the state for a major raping of the american economy as he leaves office.
what does bu$h care if the economy goes bad and the nation falls after he leaves office with billions in profits?
"Bu$h is letting it happen."
that's got to be the most uneducated argument on the blog.
1st prize winner! If you really believe Prez Bush caused this.....well...
Beam me up, Scotty. :-)
"The thing is, its happening on Bu$hs Co.,'s watch.

I may dislike Bush as much as the next guy, but it most certainly WAS the Dems who passed NAFTA during Clinton's presidency, that has caused all our companies to outsource for cheap labor.
You should look into it.
So who can stop it? If the Dems started it and the Republicans haven't stopped the free fall who will stop it? Not sure anyone in this election really has addressed that. We have had pretty faces, fancy speeches and fake smiles but who can really help the working American MAKE a living. I fear some really bad times ahead for the American worker and we created this mess.
If you really believe Prez Bush caused this.....well...
Yeah but... you won't admit that he has taken a MAJOR part- He is the worst THE WORST president that we've had- ever ever ever. He CURRENTLY has an approval rating of 23%... I don't think that is anything to brag about! His lowest- 22%. And yet somehow you people voted for him... I just don't get how he isn't to blame for SOME of it, I mean, He has been seated there 8 years and you people that voted for him need to eat the shoe laces and admit that he sucks and stop trying to look else where for blame.
"Yeah but... you won't admit that he has taken a MAJOR part-"
Yes, I did admit. might check some earlier posts on these blogs from me.
My issue w/your earlier post was you ascribed ALL blame to Bush. Reagan, H.W., Clinton, Dem's, Repub's, all had a part in getting us to this point. One word here: GREED
Human avarice. Our never ending desire for more, more, more!!!
Plenty of blame to go around. Honestly, I like Bush. But, the reality for me is that he's no saint in this either.
I wouldn't say Bu$h was all the problem. You do have to remember that we probably have the worst CONGRESS to go with him (their approval ratings have been in the teens, worst than Bu$h). I can think of some pretty lousy presidents also (Johnson in 1865, Hoover, Grant, etc). Determining how bad a president is relative to the times at hand. Johnson in 1865 was OK until Reconstruction started; then he almost got impeached. Hoover was OK until the Wall Street crash. Then people elected the savior of the times (Roosevelt) to save the US, but it took a World War to actually get us out of the depression.
I won't say that Bu$h was a good president, but he wasn't bad, and certainly not the worst. I'd give him a D+.
I know that you KNOW everything Dow- But a little fact for ya...
That was my FIRST post Dow. So that wasn't me saying that stuff about Bush before. Your so good at watching the dow you should pay more attention to the writting- They spelled Bush BU$H... I spelled it Bush.
Their is not going to be one clear answer to this sorry economy. If first you don't succeed try, try again. Try something different. Unless both parties work together it will affect everyone eventually. It doesn't matter where you tax or cut taxes, the people are gonna pay for one way or another. Tax corporate businesses, it will affect on down the line. They punish by taking companies overseas, charging more, and laying off employees. Tax the middle class and they can't afford insurance and college, etc. My way of looking at it....
@9:28 AM
My mistake...gotcha mixed up w/someone else
not having much fun watching the dow right now. :(
I've seen this quote several times over the last few years; it is becoming very meaningful for our times:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."
--- Alexander Tytler, eighteenth century writer and lawyer
Tytler also believed that a democracy, could not last much more than two hundred years, and looking to history as an indicator, he is right.
No historical democracy has sustained itself for a relatively long period of time.
During the estimated two hundred years, Tytler saw an inevitable cycle:
1) From Bondage to spiritual faith;
2) From spiritual faith to great courage;
3) From courage to liberty;
4) From liberty to abundance;
5) From abundance to complacency;
6) From complacency to apathy;
7) From apathy to dependence;
8) From dependence back into bondage.
Yep, folks, I fear we're going into bondage!! And we've done it to ourselves -- more importantly, we've done it to our kids and grandkids. I doubt if there is anyway to turn it around, but most certainly Obama's "redistribution of the wealth" will only speed up the process!
