Live blogs

Response to the live blog has been overwhelming.
We had a lot more visitors both to the site and to the blog here as a result.
Feels like we have hit upon something you all want.
I hope to do it again real soon. We might try to get the candidates involved in that.
We have elections for city commission and school board in early April.

Another idea I have is to do a general live blog, where we could talk about whatever is of interest to our readers.
Maybe a Saturday morning. I could open a live blog and just see who shows up. Let me know if you would be interested in that.

I may also try it again Monday night at the city worksession. That won't be as fast and furious as the meeting the other night.

I hope your live blog doesn't discourage or deter the actual in person appearance that occurred at the forum!

if it does, ill quit.
They were packed out the other night.

If people want their voice heard they will show up.

We need to get some debates going with commision candidates. I hope you can put this new thing to use for that.

Good idea. Then, if we're able to interview the prospective candidates in-depth, we will know how the really feel before being elected.

I would like to do that.
Here is a question.
Some candidates are not computer literate, while others are and would jump at the chance.
Is it fair to do that knowing that some would be unable to participate?
What do you all think?

If they aren't computer literate, what business do they have running for public office? You can't punish they ones who are up to speed just because someone else is not. That's kinda the reason "no child left behind" left them all behind, but that's another topic.

Surely they could find someone who could post for them--friend, school student, someone at the library, or a concerned citizen with the time to devote?

WHy would we want some uneduated person as a candidate

In 2009 if your over 14 years old and not computer literate why would i want to give you any type of serious job

Lets not promote idiots we already did that once

Couldn't agree more. If you can't figure out blogging, or aren't resourceful enough to learn, then you're either a moron or just being bull headed. It's not that hard.

JJ,
Why not give a day of posting to each candidate [those who choose to participate]?
Interview the candidate, create a post and let your readers have at it. Your blog seems to get the most traffic of all the local blogs.

just have live forums and leave it at that. the problem with blogs is it gives candidates too much time to think or have someone else compose an answer for them. you could stream a debate however and that would make sense.

Are you saying some of the candidates wouldn't be honest?
I like the live stream forum debate but also the blog [live or posting like this]
If we cannot trust our local candidates on something like this, then why are we even having an election and what does it say about what we want to lead us.

9:04,
Every blog post has a time stamp. Have a set time in which to answer the question. If too much time is taken in answering the question, then just disregard the answer.

Also each person has a different writing style.

A dishonest politician ?????
say it aint so.

Ill try to figure out something about the candidates this weekend.
I am concerned about being fair to all, even those that are not computer literate.
But at the same time, i understand the sentiment that people need to be able to rise to the occasion.
Hope to get something going late next week.

Thank you for sharing the stereotypical attitude regarding politicians.
We call out for a change in guard, for some fresh, new ideas in those running for office.
Why not actually have honest citizens running? Why not shatter the mold?
Honesty has always been the best policy. Now that is an idea to run with. One that can cause change for the better in our community.
