Voter ID

Here is a link to a chart that shows requirements in all states.
Federal law requires ID for first time voters, after that its up to the states.
They are different. Only a few require photo ID. Most just want some kind of ID, and even a bill with your name and address on it will work.
Then there is the question of whether people should be required to vote.
Be sure to check out the link to the Australian vote near the bottom of this.

Pro and con articles

From a Time magazine article
Representatives of the ACLU and several black caucuses say there's no proof of voter fraud to justify these requirements. ID advocates counter that there is no proof of disenfranchisement either. Although an Ohio State University study predicts that 6% to 10% of qualified voters in that state could be turned away if a photo ID were demanded, no studies have yet been conducted to determine whether disenfranchisement has occurred in states where such ID is already required.

I am all for voter ID. I can only imagine how many illegal voters have voted up till now.

Zero unless you have proof.

From what I have seen, there is no proof that a lot of fraud is happening, and at the same time, there is no proof that anyone is being kept from voting.

Byte,

Just because someone isn't caught doing something doesn't mean it doesn't happen. By your logic, we have a tiny little drug problem in Ark City, because only a few people are ever caught.

That, my friend, is dumb logic.

I have seen how the people working the lines at the polls do not even bother to check ID's, and I have stood behind someone while they looked through the pages to find their name. It would have been easy for me to claim to be one of the other people on that page, since I had a full view of all the names.

For you to say so matter of factly that zero happen is just ridiculous and arrogant.

Change of thought for a second, the new talk going around is that all arrest even for shop lifting or running a red light, even dog at large, basicly all misdomeaners should be required to give DNA sample and is put into National Data Base, is this going to far or not is the question?
And if a citizen can not drive and use a cell phone should law enforcement follow the same rule?

And please only serios responses!!!

YES!!!!

There is no law yet in Kansas that says you can't drive and use a cell phone. When there is, then the cops must obey it as well unless there is an exception specifically written into the law.

@ 10:30

I was being sarcastic.

I find it amusing that my logic is arrogant and ridiculous but implying Kansas has a rampant illegal voter problem, although unproven, is not?

Nowhere did I say the illegal voter problem was "rampant". One illegal vote is one too many, and requiring a legal ID to vote would help with that.

BTW, do you just assume that I am talking about illegal immigrants when I say illegal votes? There are many citizens of this nation who are not legally allowed to vote as well.

I don't even know who I am arguing with - get a name or at least identify which anonymous person you are.
