AP reporting

Does this story seem biased to you all?

Former president faces hecklers in Kan.
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Former President George H.W. Bush faced a few hecklers Sunday at the University of Kansas as he reminisced about his career and reflected on the economic and international issues dominating the end of his son’s presidency.
The elder Bush said it’s too early to know how history will judge his son’s two terms. He defended his son’s recent oversight of the current war in Iraq after discussing the decision in the first Gulf War not to attempt to topple Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
The former Republican president also dismissed the idea, advanced by many Democrats, that deregulation of the nation’s financial markets led to the economic meltdown this fall. He argued for continued U.S. involvement with China, saying that nation does not want to dominate its neighbors.
The crowd of about 2,000 people was mostly friendly, but security officers escorted a half-dozen hecklers from the auditorium while Bush answered questions from Bill Lacy, director of the Dole Institute of Politics, and submitted by e-mail. The hecklers appeared to be critics of the current president, and none was arrested.
“These guys yelling at me, that doesn’t bother me anymore,” Bush said. “It goes with the territory, and you have to get used to it.”
Bush, the nation’s 41st chief executive, came to the university to receive the 2008 Leadership Prize from the Dole Institute of Politics. He praised Bob Dole, the former Senate majority leader and 1996 Republican presidential nominee, and had kind words for other prominent figures — even President Nixon, forced to resign in 1974 because of the Watergate scandal.

Yep I read it yesterday and it seemed very bias. But that's KU and the media for ya.

I know the media is suppose to be neutral but they're not. I wonder how the election would have gone if there would have been more POSITVE reporting on McCain. And perhaps more negative stuff about Obama. If the headlines read positive stuff instead of all the bad. Do you think people's attitudes would be different? But that doesn't sell...the good stuff anyway.

I'm trying to change the election or say that is why McCain lost...I imagine he would have lost anyway. But in general...would the economy be in such turmoil if the news reported stuff about good that is going on in the world? Everyday its how the dow is down or more people laid off. WHAT IF....there was only a small mention of the down and larger articles about areas that are hiring. I know right now there isn't much positive going on but if a better spin was put to it...think about.

I was there, and this article accurately reflects the tone of the encounter. Had it played out in Johnson Co. the article might have had a different voice, but who knows. Yeah, yeah, "liberal media this-n-that," I know, I know. Informed readers must take it upon themselves to do the sifting.

As a positive note about the upcoming end of the world - I place a water dish and plates of cat food on my deck for strays and the odd possum. (Go ahead and rat me out) Every day, there is a layer of fine black particulate on the dishes and on the surface of the water. It is getting worse. I live on the north end of town and am curious as to the orgin of this. Anyone else have this problem? Is this residue from the black helicopters or crap from the Oklahoma power plants? Sorry to disrupt the pattern but couldn't think of another place to post this as the paper seldom accepts letters to the editor.

George H.W. Bush is almost a tragic figure. He wasn't a great president, but he wasn't a terrible one either. His response to the invasion of Kuwait was reasoned, measured and effective. At the end of it, Saddam wasn't a risk to us any more than Quadaffi was. The economy wasn't ruined, etc.

But now his administration is permanently linked to his idiot son and all of the GHWB advisers, (Cheney, etc) that are responsible for screwing up the country in his son's administration.

He is now heckled, which he doesn't deserve. He and Bar were pretty good to the country.
