residential explosion

According to the scanner, there was a residential explosion near Atlanta, near the intersection of 77th and 131st roads just before 12:30 today.
Apparently related to work on a propane tank. As of 12:30 the house was in flames and propane was still burning.
The female was laying in the yard with an apparent broken leg. A helicopter was being dispatched.
She also had severe burns to her face and hands.
The status of the male in the house was not known.

Thats awful, I send my prayers!

Off topic, but the Veterans Parade was REALLY small and their was not very many people there.

I've never quite understood why the parade is in the middle of a work day when most adults are working & kids are in school. That's why no crowd.

On that topic, I've been wondering what is wrong with a society that doles out a paid holiday to people who didn't have to do anything to earn it. Veterans Day, a day dedicated to those who have served this country, is a designated paid holiday for anyone with a federal government job (courts, post office, FDIC banks, etc). They don't have to have been in the service, they just get a paid holiday at the expense of those who have served but still have to work that day and pay taxes for the gov't workers to take the day off. For one example, my husband served honorably in Viet Nam, came home to a world who despised Nam vets who were only doing their jobs as they were commanded to do them, got no timely recognition for their service (until the wall was built for those killed in action), and my husband has never had Veterans Day off, paid or otherwise, and has never been able to attend a parade in his honor because he has to work. Seems our values are misguided when we give a paid day off to people who have never served in the military while veterans have to work and pay taxes so that gov't employees can take Veterans Day off with pay. Instead, why doesn't the gov't make Veterans Day a mandatory paid holiday for all actual veterans only? They are the ones who deserve to be well-treated by our labors and tax dollars.

God bless our veterans whether working or retired!

And, back on topic, God bless the Atlanta folks with the best of care.

Hear, hear! I totally agree. I am off today. I earned it, my wife earned it, and our son earned it as veterans. Change the holiday to require those taking the day off to show their employers their DD214.

your missing the point, its a national holliday to honor those who served,, in many parts of the country there is quite alot of celabration and services as well as honor recognition,, its in places like Ark City where selfish people like you live that bitch about the size of the hairs on a flys ass that no one has any respect, maybe if you open your eyes and lose the self pitty you will see that there are alot of things going on, and if your husbands boss will not allow him the day off, tell him to quit and find a job that will, after all this is America your free to put yourself in any circumstance you like

And your point is?

The point is sometimes the people reading the blog are too self-centered to pull their head out of their asses long enough to figure out the shit they are smelling is their own. Still don't understand?

Laymans terms then: Quit trying to cause problems, respect the vets and respect Martin Luther King too...even if you are not black and/or have never been a slave. Respect the 4th of July even if you did not see it 200 plus years ago. And don't forget about Thanksgiving even if you are a Aethiest, bet you can have the day off.

OH HELL GET BACK TO WORK YOU SLACKERS!

Good time to encourage everyone to have their furnaces inspected for safety. Check to make sure heating vents are clear of combustible materials. Check your exhausts for obstruction. Each year several fatalities occur from CO poisoning. Birds love to build nests in chimneys (or flues) where the screen has been breached.

Folks be careful. No more oss of life to such horrible tragedies is what we oughtta pray for.

11:16 poster, I SUPPOSE from your reaction you get the day off & are afraid to lose it to those who deserve it. Yeah, quitting a job for a day off must be the solution. You post very angrily. Chill.

My personal opinion is that the idea of Vets day for vets is giving the benefit to the deserving. I see nothing self-centered about showing respect to others.

LOL. So Thankgiving is a religious holiday now? I am an atheist, but I still like turkey!

fail!

Thanksgiving has always been a religious holiday.
Who do you think thanks is giving to?

Good one Mr. Editor!

Thanksgiving Day off for believers only? hmmm.... this ought to get angry poster going :)

How about to the indians who's land we stole AFTER they taught us how to cook our thanksgiving meal.

be sure to read the posts on "speaking of holidays" blog: another twist on paid holidays!

I am embarassed after reading the juvenile and ill-mannered posts that followed my mention of perhaps earning a holiday rather than being entitled to one. I thought that people who owned computers and perhaps read a newpaper might be a little above such rantings. Silly me!

Anonymous said...

Rick,
I agree with you. argh....is my response to the juvenile posts.

Rick, you never know when you are going to be attacked on a blog. I think most people on these blogs are ok. I figure it is usually 1 or 2 immature adults that get on here and cuss and attack others opinions and ideas. I just remind myself to ignore those who act that way. I quit posting my name since I got tired of the hateful behavior of some bloggers.

"We didn't land on Sherwood Forrest.. Sherwood Forrest landed on us!"

And Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday. Just because you associate it with Sunday school does not mean it is religious. It is a fall Harvest festival.

It can be a harvest festival if you want it to be for you.
but historically
it was started by the puritans and was a religious celebration. thats basic u.s. history.
thankgsgiving is a purely american holiday based in religion.

fall harvest festivals are a whole different thing and have no historical relationship whatsoever.

I did not see anything about a religious holiday. In today's times, I think it is a man's holiday. They sit on the couch, drink beer, watch football and eat all day long. The women spend their day (and usually the day before) in the kitchen cooking and cleaning up after the men. I guess I should be more grateful that there is food to cook and a man to eat it, but sometimes I just want to walk out of the house and hide. I wonder what the men would do then? Hee-hee!

As for Veteran's Day, I think most of us forget what it's really about. That is a shame!

Anonymous said...

Well if you take Christmas...it has turned into a get all you can for your kids. I am continually amazed how people spend $100's of dollars for one kid. I think alot of people have forgotten that it is a religious holiday.

I just wanted to say you are a real ass!- And a not very intelligent one at that Mr. Flys ass! (I call you that because of your self-proclaimed analogy and that you are annoying like a fly) I agree the point is being missed when veterans are working and lazy ass government workers, bankers and postal workers who serve nobody is off.

As a woman I am offended about Thanksgiving being called a 'mans' holiday.
For your information I enjoy cooking Thanksgiving while my family watches sports and nibbles on goodies and the general atmosphere at my house with the kids and grandkids all home. I have a big family and enjoy filling their bellies with good food and cooking Thanksgiving dinner is no hardship, rather a great time of fellowship with family and friends. You guys need to get a positive mental attitude instead of downing everything, some of us still enjoy life and are grateful to have a time to says thanks and enjoy just being together.

Traveler Editor said...

you can always go out to eat at one of those buffet places.
or even buy a ready made thanksgiving dinner at dillons.

Yes, Thanksgiving is supposed to be about giving thanks (and we know to Whom) and fellowship with family & friends. However, there could be more of that for the women if they didn't work so hard preparing & cleaning. I got a real chuckle from poster @ 7:54 pm, because I agree with "her" analysis, but James is also correct in that the guys with no women to cook that enormous feast would just go out on the town to eat (or to Dillons). Thanks for the laughs!

P.S. I have to give thanks for my hubby who offers kitchen help at Thanksgiving and many more days thru the year. Wish there were more like him to go around.
