back to the music

The River of Life Music Festival group has been meeting, and we have come up with a new plan.
We had an opportunity to bring Remedy Drive back for a concert in late Feb., but decided that we did not have enough time to promote it adequately.
I leaned a lot about promotion during the last music festival. I did more and worked harder in that area than i did the first year, but it was not as effective.
Anyways, we felt we didn't have time, so we decided to not go forward.

What we are going to do is to have some band competitions with local bands.
We hope to get started in March.
We will have an open invitation to local bands - local defined as how ever far a band is willing to travel and play.
We will either have professional judges or let popular vote decide the winner. We hope to have this every month. The winners will advance to our music festival in the fall. They will make up the program.
We still have to work out some details as far as how the competition will work.

We are also thinking about moving the festival to September, the week before the bluegrass in Winfield.

Have you noticed that no-one is ever on this blog on the weekend, just during the work week when they should be working. Hope you are all self employed and using your own computer, not blogging on your bosses dime.

It is true that there are more posts and visits during the week.
I have this little piece of software that tracks such things.
The biggest days are monday and friday ..
But one interesting stat is .. most are before 9 am. and after 4 p.m. .
but some employers really dont mind if their workers take a short break to read a blog.
as long as their work gets done.

Great ideas JJ. Are you going to have age restrictions on the bands? Is there an entry fee?

I just found out about this...

No bands scheduled yet, but they are making it out to be a big deal, so lets hope it's someone decent.

Hey if you will send me your email address, ill send you what i sent to my board members.
No age restriction as of yet.
We have to define also, what level of band. What is professional?
Hope to get that figured out this week.

Just wanted to say my son, one of the skaters and myself went to a show at the Sprint Center this weekend and had a blast. It was cool to get to know the kid better seeing as we had to keep each other awake for the 4 hour drive home. We were in by 5:30am (ouch I'm getting old) and then back up at 9:30 for our weekly skatepark tour. We hit Ponca this weekend and only three skaters came (Due to the cold) but we once again had a great time. On the way home we even hit the Newkirk skate park (kind of embarasing to me that even Newkirk has a nice park and we don't). The kids have an interesting theory on this. In a town that is raising taxes, charging highest for water shut off and turn on, and charging out of towners for wrecks is it possible they don't build a skate park because it would take away the revenue of fining skaters? I couldn't answer no honestly. Anyways it was a great weekend hope everyone elses was as good.
