have we changed yet ? / more city

I liked Obama's speech. He is a great speaker. Maybe that is what we need.
We need someone with vision and the ability to inspire as they articulate that vision. I dont think the vision itself is the thing that will make a difference.
But just the articulating it in a clear manner that will inspire people.
It will be interesting to see what happens
Im waiting for change... hope it happens.

Just less than a week to go to the city commission - and school board - filing deadline.
Only Patrick McDonald has filed for re-election as of last night. Joel Hockenbury and Scott Margolius say they are still undecided.
Ive heard a couple other names thrown around of people who might run, but so far they have not.
A previous commissioner attends meetings regularly, and she might run again.
Some people have even encouraged me to run.

It wasn't a great speech. It was a well-delivered speech, but wasn't great in content. I read an article from the Telegraph in England, and that was their opinion as well. It was ok; great delivery, content fell short.
I rarely watch John Stewart, but I did last night because I got tired of watching all the news channels follow the President around. He was pretty funny. I thought he was just a Bush-basher, but after last night, I realized he pretty much bashes anybody who is in the drivers seat. He had this segment on Obama's speech, and then had segments of previous Bush speeches throughout the part 8 years. THEY SAID THEY SAME THING, VERBATIM. Obama just said them in a different style, and everybody drools over themselves. I thought it was pretty funny. Change my butt. Sounds like he is recycling talking points.
I hope for him the best. I see his biggest problem he faces now is not the economy or foreign policy, but his own party. If he can stand up to Pelosi, I think he will be a great president. Otherwise, I see us in a mess for a long time.

jj, are you saying that the message doesn't matter, as long as the person is a good speaker in articulating that message?

In my college speech class, we were taught about the man who was considered by many to be the greatest orator of all time, Adolph Hitler.

I think the message does matter. To many sheeple get caught up inj the celebrity, and the articulation, and agree with whatever is said without thought, and that is dangerous. It's like the power of a rock star onstage who says inflamatory things. That crowd could riot at the mere suggestion. People need to wake up and listen to WHAT is being said, not just how well it is being said.

And I'm glad to hear Patrick is running again. I hope Joel does the same. We really need them to stand up for us.

Probably the greatest orator of all time was William Jennings Bryan.
Or Plato. Or who?

Definitely not George Bush. And probably not Obama.

It isn't words. It's actions.
He signed a freeze on all regulatory changes from Bush, and will be signing an order closing gitmo prison.

Pretty good for day one.

His speech? Who cares? It was written by someone else anyway.

Anonymous said...

That freeze also stops concealed carry in national parks, so will this be the first shot in the anti gun campaign? We'll see.

Sorry JJ, that sounded like what you were saying.

Content does matter over style IMO.

Interesting reading would be www.whitehouse.gov. Sounds great if you are what's considered a liberal. Rejoice! But, if you call youself a conservative...well... Oh well, nobody reads the fine print anyway do they? That is until you have a problem with the contract. But then it's too late.
I wish President Obama the best. I am a true patriot. A previous writer mentioned Ms. Pelosi. I add Mr. H. Reid to that list. They are both loose cannons. (writer's opinion only) Unfortunately most people don't even know who they are or what power they weild. Hope Mr. O. can stand up to them. It will take guts.

Someone mentioned Hitler earlier. A truly great orator. Must be also said he was a great leader. In this day and age, we have something they did not. Media, internet, etc. Ability to move masses in a moment of time. People are too moved by the appearance of people, their voice, their possessions.
I, frankly am more interested in WHAT you say, WHEN you say it, and WHY you say it.
I really do not believe B.O. is the same kind of person as Hitler or Mousillini in his heart, but, the comparison is made only for thought purpose. Well, since we know virtually nothing about Mr. Obama, the only test we can give him now is the test of time. Time will tell.
The times of that day thought Roosevelt was horrible when he left office, but, history thought, recounted and gave him a different verdict.
Wonder what history will do with W. after it has had time to think & recount?

NY Times is comparing it to FDR's speech. I think not.

Sorry, Hitler and Goebbels were excellant in presenting a speech. Have you actually read what they said? you would be appalled, but for some reason, the majority of the Germans thought otherwise. Instead of listening to the message, they got caught up in the emotion. Sounds vaguely familiar to the last 6 months. But I do have to stop the comparison there, as Hilter was evil, probably the Son of Satan himself. Pres. Obama is only a typical politician.

Hope and Change can only happen with ...Action, not flowery words. To me, the jury hasn't even gone into session. Newscast all over the place are asking what he is going to do in his first 100 hours. 20 hours into it, he's gone to a lot of parties. How about we wait 100 days. That will be his defining moment. Or 1000 days. Bush did ok his first 100 days. He was in the doghouse after 1000.
We live in a turbulent world. I predict that we will get out of Iraq by 2012, but due to the unrest in the region, we will be back, most likely in Iran as a UN peace keeping mission to keep Israel from nuking the crap out of Iran after Iran lobs one into Tel Aviv.

That's a good point.

Someone asked Kruschev what he thought about the french revolution ... he said "it's too soon to tell."

I am very conservative and I voted for McCain. That being said -- I was very excited to watch all the history in DC yesterday. I may not like most of his policy ideas, but Obama definately has something exciting about him. He is a motivating leader and I am going to give him a chance and just hope he doesn't go too far left with his policies.

Anonymous said...

I am currently in D.C. I was down on the mall yesterday with 2 millions on my fellow citizens. I wish everyone could have felt the positive vibe that came filled the air.

The President has a difficult task in front of him. He knows that he can not do it alone. It will take every American to turn this country around. Change has to start at home.

Change... I hear a lot of talk about change on this blog.I also see little talk about what the blogers are doing to make change.

No one wants to run for commission the only thing the people of AC want to do is sit back and complain. How about getting up and making change? Work with the youth. They are the next leaders of our city and nation. Attend a commission meeting. Do something.

I think above everything that is what Pres Obama was trying to say in his speech yesterday. He is an American. He can't change America or even "save" America alone. It will take every single one of us out there doing something.

Anonymous said...

I agree w/ Jill. Pres. Obama pretty much pointed to the people, and said if we want change, we would have to do it. One man cannot do it, but 300 million Americans can. He can guide it, but cannot do it all.
Speaking of the commission. Personally, I think I would like to do it. But I don't have the time to do it. Unless they could have commission meetings on the weekend or Friday night, I am pretty tied up doing other things, things I have already volunteered for. A city board post, active in coaching Rec-Center programs twice a week, a bible-study I lead; leaves me with Friday night, or the weekend. Somewhere I need to shoehorn my 4 kids and wife in there as well. I am also somewhat concerned on what impact it would to to my employer. Decisions I would make may be mistaken for the opinions of my employer, or vice versa (that I am a puppet, going their bidding). My livelihood depends on our business making a profit, how little it is, to be able to pay it's workers, and stay viable in the community. If we lose business because of a decision I made, and the local yahoos think my employer's business was the cause, guess what, I could lose my job because we can no longer pay our employees due to a loose in revenue.
I think a lot of people would like to run for the same reason, but like me, they do not have the time, because they are already active in the community, or they fear the repercussions they may get from the local yahoos (I classify a local yahoo who complains about what is going on, but won't put his money where there mouth is, will not volunteer, is a backseat driver, an armchair quarterback, you get the point; they are more of the problem, and not part of the solution).
Then there are the ones who are local yahoos (see definition above) who like to complain about almost everything, but are unwilling to step up and actually try something.
I've even thought about the school board, but since my wife and I homeschool our 4 kids, that might look a little funny.

I came across this article on MSN about the new "Crash Tax", and some things in it were surprising. Like, how a private agancy gets 10% of the fees collected. I don't know if that's the way it is here, but it deserves some looking into.

Here is the article:

Keep in mind that the meetings CAN be moved. In fact the last two elected boards have moved meeting times. There is nothing that keeps you from having Friday evening meetings. It takes a simple majority of the commission to make such an adjustment. As long as those meeting times are posted publicly, they can be at midnight if that's what works for the folks volunteering to serve.

Don't let that issue stop you if you have the interest or desire. Go for it!

From KAKE:

Ark City Adding Extra Fees For Drivers Who Cause Accidents Save Email Print

Reporter: Jennifer Bocchieri
Email Address: jbocchieri@kake.com

Wednesday, January 21, 2009

As if being involved in an accident isn't bad enough, one local town is now adding an extra charge to the drivers responsible.

If Ark City police officers are called out and they end up investigating a crash scene, the at-fault driver's insurance company now gets a bill so the city can recoup the cost of that work.

But if those insurance companies refuse to pay the bill is then passed on to the driver. If you're from out of town, you're expected to pay it.

The charge may be as much as $700.

The goal is to help cut down on police costs. Last year, out-of-towners caused 56% of all crashes.

"In other words the taxpayers of Arkansas City were paying for the services of the Arkansas City Police Department to investigate a crash that didn't involve a person that paid taxes for the services of those officers," said Ark City Police Chief Sean Wallace.

Since the new program started in October, police have sent out 55 bills and have gotten back $3,500.

But accident attorney Roger Riedmiller thinks this might not be legal.

"To basically treat citizens, Kansans and U.S. citizens differently, I do not think that passes constitutional muster," said Riedmiller.

But Chief Wallace says departments in more than 100 cities and 20 states are already using this new technique and it's already been tested in the courts.

He also says paying the bill is 100% voluntary and it's primarily meant to target insurance companies.

"If the person says they're not going to pay the bill we won't pursue them through the credit bureau or any type of collection agency," said Wallce.

So, I bet anyone who reads this will try to avoid Ark City when travelling through the area. And why have it if you aren't going to enforce it, and why broadcast the fact that you aren't going to enforce it to a reporter unless you feel it is unfair and are trying to justify it?

>>>>

there are currently three discrimination claims against the city, all to an agency that looks into these things
none have resulted in lawsuits yet, so there is nothing to settle yet.

one of them was someone who was offered a job,but the job requires the person live in the city. the person refused to move into the city so the offer was removed, and he says thats discrimination.

another one is because the city wouldnt hire someone who had applied for a job.
the other one was for a worker who got in trouble with her supervisor and is saying it is racial

ive not done a story because no suits have been filed yet
i would say that the $500,000 settlement thing is not true ... once a suit is filed, or a formal action taken, then there may be something to talk about

i was just waiting for that,..

Did anyone see the ACPD spot on Tru TV's Most Outragous Criminals? It was an escape attempt by someone being held. While I have been reading in the paper and seeing on the news that Wallace is putting us in the limelight, now we are on national TV. What a PR hound! I hope he doesn't break his arm patting himself on the the back! He needs to worry more about what is going on out on the streets than strutting like a peacock on the screen.

If that was the case I haven't heard any city employees say anything about it at my store plus I believe that in a case such as this Kuhn's insurance would cover that cost.

To everyone on Mr. Wallace's case

Is this the same group that was saying they didn't need a police dog the other day and yelling that they should fund stuff like that without tax payers dollars? Now you are saying get off tv and go make the streets safe? Mr. Wallace I appologize for the people of Ark City though I know some won't want me too. You risk your life and the lives of your officers trying to make the city safer yet you apparently have G.W. disease. You know in a time of crisis everyone is your friend but it doesn't seem to take them long to forget. Thank you sir for the work you do for the city. Though I don't always see eye to eye with some police procedures you still deserve more respect than what you are being given here. I aplaude you and your fellow officers sir.

Anonymous said...

No I for one am not nor have been complaining about the drug dogs, however I don't think that it is all important to spend time broad casting this type stuff on local or national TV. I do know that the officers in Wallaces charge often risk their lives. And yes, I do believe that it is his job to do the same but he does spend a good bit of time on PR. When was the last time you heard or saw Wellington or Winfield PD on the news unless there was some crime scene they needed help with from the public? Go ahead and appologize if you want to Zach, but don't for me. I truely beleive that all the fan fare is not necessary. Just my opinion, and I am entitled to it without being called a boo bird....What a lame attempt JJ. I am not a nay sayer all the time, just in this case so just get over it.

Anonymous said...

All this talking and no one has ask nor did JJ tell us how much money we spent on the fire trucks and I bet if we have another fire like the one down town a few months ago we will still need trucks form Winfield and New Kirk. It's not the truck that counts but the man behind the truck!!

NNTR

Anonymous said...

"All this talking and no one has ask nor did JJ tell us how much money we spent on the fire trucks"
They didn't buy fire trucks! Looks like they bought a couple of used dodge durangos to replace some 1997 crown vics. According to the commission note on the city web page they are paying around $30,000 for both trucks. Seems resonable allthough it might be better to spend a little more on new ones.

Dead Rabbit said...

Funny I thought a chief of police was supposed to do PR. PR being public relations I would think we would want good PR? If it came out tomorrow that our taxes were going to increase due to the cost of dealing with out of towners getting in wrecks on their way home from the casinos then I imagine this arguement would be going the opposite way. I think it's kind of cool that in a time when taxes are being raised and the government is being asked for a handout everyday our police force has discovered a way to cover expenses without throwing it on our backs. I wasn't trying to offend anyone nor was I trying to say you didn't have a right to your opinion, some people just need to find a more tactfull way of expressing it rather than calling him a fool or a bafoon. I mean I din't even call anyone a name and look how offended you got.

.....
No, nowhere in the constitution does it say you have a right to not be called a boo bird :)
the supreme court has also ruled that you do not have an inalienable right to not be offended :)

In the paper we said what the trucks cost. I guess i should not have said fire truck though.
but that is splitting hairs.
they are not "fire trucks" they are regular trucks that will be used by the fire dept., and part of that will be in going to fires to fight fires.
so ...
they are in essence fire trucks, even if they are not red and dont make a lot of noise.

they did talk about whether to buy new ones. they save about 10,000 each on "program" vehicles, which are almost new.
Fire chief thinks that is a better deal than spending the extra for new.

Also
part of the police chief's job is PR. it is a valuable thing.

3 parts. You both have a sense of humor and can be flat out hilarious. 2 you have that same humor for yourselves and don't take yourselves too serious and we could all use some of that. and 3 you are willing to be more than just sideliners with oneliners. you are out there DOING it even if it is wrong and signing your names while you are at it. and by the way I never confuse blogging with DOING something. when someone said Zach was a Great American above they may have said that in jest but the fact of the matter is that even if Zach fails he had to DO something in order to fail. At least both James and Zach are TRYING and that is a lot more than can be said of a lot of the people out there with calluses on their butts and backsides.

As far as the old customers of my father, that makes up almost all my business. I haven't ever said I don't care about them but I have said that due to age they are dieing out and I need to find ways of appealing to the younger generation. I think someone quoted me out of context there. Never feel the need to deffend me. Though a lot of things said to or about me hurt (yes people I am a bit sensitive) I can take care of myself. A very good and strong arguement... yeah right.

You weren't present when Zach supposedly said these things. You just have second hand information from your "friends". So now Zach is guilty as charged.

"The fairy too" now that brings a lot of credibility to your argument. Childish name calling, that is a sign of a weak argument from a weak mind.

Don't get me wrong I want to run. There is a lot I think needs questioned in this city. But if you think my dirty laundry gets aired out on here now then what do you think would happen if I was up there? I also honestly can not say that I will be here for the next three years. It gets harder every day. If anyone has a viable suggestion for that then please let me know. I love AC I wear my red hat with pride. I always have and always will but as times get harder I have to ask what is best for the future of my son. Seeing his dad beat his head against a wall trying to make a failing business work just may not be the answer. Don't worry though I'm not on the sidelines. I keep trying to help people with their ideas and further my own. Instead of griping for the city to build a skatepark myself and a friend have been loading kids into our vehicles and taking them to Winfields on Sundays at 10 a.m. My address is 816 N. Summit if you know any kids that would like to ride along. The only bad part is I have to go first come first serve and there is only so many I can fit in my van. Last week we had a turn out of 5 kids and this week it sounds like we will have 7. I still plan on coaching every sport I can and instilling a sense of pride, team work, and fun while doing it. I hope that more people will help with this sinse we are losing a great coach in Justin Sparks. I have been talking with some of the people getting the Midwest Rockfest together and have vollunteered any help they could need. And there is more but I know several people hate when I toot my own horn. I will stay active and try to leave this community better than when I got here even if it isn't from a commission chair. I challenge some of you to do the same.

Anonymous said...

Zach. I have bagged on you in the past, but here is an idea. Why not start carrying things in your store other than the old standby hardware items? You like the skateboarders, so why not start stocking skateboard gear, accessories? How about airsoft guns? Things that appeal to the younger set, AND have the added plus of your son thinking how cool it is that his dad has all this cool stuff in his store.

How about a high knife selection or flashlights? There are collectors of both in town. Make it more of a collectable shop along with the hardware.

Just an idea.

(If you implement my ideas, I want a 25% discount on my first surefire purchase)

Hey how about cloth and sewing supplies, now that walmart is shutting its section down.
thats kinda hardware in a way ?

like browns, open other small things, like skateboard supplies .. along with all the traditional hardware stuff you already have

do you have room upstairs for musical performances ?

Also, you said you liked comics, you could sell them in your store.

interesting.

craft, fabric sewing supplies is actually a really great idea. Especially interesting stuff that you may not be able to get other places.

Sort of a unisex hobby/slash home improvement.
Offering classes would be great, too.

I would definitely pay to take a sewing or knitting class.

You might be able to partner with Brown's to offer the classes there but you provide the supplies for a fee.

I know a female who would be great at helping you pick stuff out and would probably do it for free.

they are not "fire trucks" they are regular trucks that will be used by the fire dept., and part of that will be in going to fires to fight fires.
so ...

Did you know they just ask the commission to spend over $100,000 for a new truck of some sort just a few meetings ago

All great advice and I will take each of them to my investors and see what I can make happen. My problem at this point is lack of money causes me to have a very depleted stock. We have tried some new items that haven't flown so well, i.e. airsoft (though I couldn't get real large with it due to budget restrictions but I have sold near a dozen guns) skate accessories, some comic type stuff, and camping gear. Others have done well i.e. I have the largest selection of knives Bryant's has ever seen and sold over 150 between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I've always worried some about expanding in some areas due to the fact I'd hate to put anyone else out of business i.e. skateboards and Spokes and Things or archery with us having Treestand. The sewing thing had never crossed my mind nor have the high end flashlights I will deffinately look into all of these things and if anyone has a good lead on a source feel free to e-mail me at liberecland@gmail.com. This is your hardware store Ark City and I will continue to strive to make it better for you.

JJ as far as the music it would be awesome, right now I am in the process of getting a new roof (hopefully soon) which will make it easier to use the upstairs.

Anonymous said...

How about some light switches that are not brown?

Seriously, though. I was just thinking the other day what a shame it is that Mid-West, Bryant's and Wood's are spread out over town. They would be a better draw if they were side by side. Dude, it would be like a Lowe's thing. One stop shopping convenience.

Kind of the same concept with the Archery and Gun shops.

Jill, did you drink some kool-ade in Washington or did JJ hit you with some foo-foo dust?

You are all "sparkly" and "positive"! Whatever you got your hands on, bring some back to AC. I could use some. Ba-humbug.

JJ and ZB spotted at Graves sharing a soda - 2 straws, one glass. Also seen wearing matching velour jogging suits, sharing a candy necklace, naming stars after each other, riding a tandem bike, watching HGTV in their matching Snuggies, and wearing the 2-piece horse costume at a Halloween party.

Dead Rabbit said...

I do own a tandem bike. I used it to get chicks in middle school. It was cool kind of like owning a convertable I guess. You know the gay insults won't get to me do to the fact that I'm very close to some homosexual people and somehow all of them tell me not to let the "breeders" bother me. Call me gay all you like I would rather be labeled that then a hate filled bigot. Anyways thats just absurd we would look like a camel more than a horse due to the height difference. I was Little Orphan Annie and he was Daddy Warbucks.

I can't believe I'm reading this!

Zach, you are a really nice guy, but don't be so nice that you don't try to move your choice retail goods for fear of hurting someone elses feelings. You have to think of your business too!

Dead Rabbit said...

Yeah I know I need to be more ruthless in business. I've just always felt it hurts the town to see any business close. I have talked with Spokes and Things and I'm trying to carry the odd nuts and bolts for bikes and skateboards that they have trouble getting. I also carry some screws for guns that run a little cheaper due to the fact they don't come from the gun manufacturer. I think this is the mentallity local business needs. If we all would work together and build off each other then we all will grow and prosper. But yes Jamie you are correct I do need to start thinking more of myself and my family because if I always worry about hurting someone else then I will fail.

Anonymous said...

Zach,

Are there more than one plumber in town? More than one electrician? Doctor? Dentist?

Don't worry about encroaching on someone else. We could use a little more competition in town to lower prices. I would like to see you carry Archery supplies and flashlights that don't have a huge markup.

why does the fire chiefs wife drive around in the fire dept vehicles her husband uses? she works for the police dept and should still have to follow the rules any other wife would. Most company cars are for the employee only and not to be driven by family members or for non work use, doesnt the city have this kind of policy also?

Yeah, I've tried calling him out on the IP thing, too. I can't figure it out, either.

Try either the last Nov. or the first of Dec. or maybe just call the fire chief and ask him oh yea that means you have to practice journalism :)

Maybe the police dept. should buy a car for her to use, instead of borrowing one from the fire dept.

"why does the fire chiefs wife drive around in the fire dept vehicles her husband uses?"
THIS IS SAD! Someone has just accused two good people of mis using city property. I have known and worked with the fire chiefs wife for many years, she is honest, ethical, and a good person. I seriously doubt she has been driving the fire chiefs truck around. Could it be you saw a female driving the truck and made an asumption that it was his wife? The fire dept does have three female firefighters including the EMS Director that drives the truck. JJ I'am a little dissapointed in you for not checking into this before it destroys a couple of peoples careers. They both have served this community for many years and served it well. I know these blogs have a life of their own, but they still have the power to destroy good people.
Also the $100,000 spent a few meetings ago was for the water department, they purchased a mini escavator and a skid loader, had nothing to do with the fire dept.
Again I just wish people would check their facts before they post untrue acusations!

Even better these blogs allow the record to be set straight and rumors to be corrected! But, then again there is the chance that a real wrong might be revealed!

Way to go JJ your blog can and does make a difference!

Even if it were true, i really doubt it would hurt anyone's career.
I did point out that as an employee of the city, she may well have been on official business.
Did you know the fire chief got hurt at home recently, and had to go to the ER.
Maybe his wife was driving him to the ER.
They didnt call for an ambulance but well could have.

I agree some accusations are just stupid, but i dont see it has damaging anyone all that much either.

Anonymous said...

Are you kidding JJ? Some was has accused a department head of allowing his wife to use a city vehicle for personal use! You don't think that could risk their jobs? To me it seems close to slander and your blog is supporting it! No wonder good people leave this city!

Traveler Editor said...

of allowing his wife to use a city vehicle for personal use! You don't think that could risk their jobs?
>>>
No, just think for a second.
Consider the source .. an anonymous poster ...
if any employer would use that to get on an employee, they would be a pretty bad employer.
Besides, for all we know, if it even happened, it could have been official city business.
Or it could have even been a different person.
Or maybe the poster just made it up.
That was a silly accusation that anyone over the age of three should see as such ... lets not make it more than it is.

Wow you sure nailed me. I'd hate to think I might be doing "work" on my computer. You know placing orders, filing taxes (which there are alot of right now), or doing my monthly statements. Glad you seem to know so much about me. So much that you even quoted me as the wrong dang person. (Insert dramatic clap here) bravo sir.

Anonymous said...

YES YOU DID...9:36 on 1/22. You sure did begin the BFF jokes. That's what mine were. To quote "Stripes"...lighten up, Francis.
I noticed posts from you at 10 AM and 2:40PM. These times are during your business hours. One happens to be when I stopped by. I doubt you even knew I had come in. I know it won't break you, but I for one will not return. I was treated as an inconvenience, and brushed off. I then went to Ace and was greeted with a smile and a "What can I help you find?" Not a scowl and a sideways "Help ya?"

Dead Rabbit said...

Ok I'm sorry. The one you keep reffering to was one where someone else copied my quote I see it now.

Jan 22nd at 9:20 anonymous started the BFF joke and I've never seen stripes. For the last two days I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how to file w-2s so you are right I probably wasn't pleasent when you came in. If you stop typing on the web site for 20 minutes it logs you off and you have to start the whole w2 form over (which happened to me several times in the last 2 days) Again it isn't an excuse I do appologize but I guess my question is actually this. Why didn't you call me on it then? Why wait and anonymously do it on here? If I had explained at the time it may have made a difference in how you percieved me that day. Or are you just really angry that you made a gay joke and got called a bigot for it? I am at work forbetween 10 and 11 hours a day so yes I jump over to this site a few times throughout the day. Recently I have been taking e-mails from people about what Ithey would like to see in my store due to me coming to this site (thank you all for the suggestions) So boss when do I get my pay check sense you know all about my business? I want to ask you how often you came in before and Alan was on the other side in his office doing paper work? Or how often was my dad in the back corner placing orders? In answer they both spent at least 6 hours a day and my employees will tell you they spent more. So is it really that amazing to you that I have to spend so much time on the computer do to the fact that both their jobs and my old job are all my job now? I'm honestly trying to be less confrontational and a better hardware store and really just a better all around person so I guess I'll ask one more. What have you done lately?

Anonymous said...

damnit Zach, it's since (as in since yesterday), not sense (as in sixth sense).

That really bugs me for some reason.

I just don't think its any big deal.
Could be that the vehicle is considered his vehicle as part of the job. In that case, he could let anyone he wanted drive it.

But you have to understand, in retail, it is all about the customer. I don't care if you're busy saving the world on your computer, if I walk into your establishment, you need to drop it and make me feel I'm the most important thing in the world. No matter what. Or I will go somewhere where they will. These places do exist, and they thrive.
