candidates

The deadline for filing for office in city and school board races is noon Tuesday.
You can sign up for the city hall race at city hall in Arkansas City.
For city commission we now have four candidates ... Patrick McDonald the incumbent, Jean Snell, Jay Warren and Pennyann Waresak.
Scott Margolius told me Monday he would make a final decision Tuesday a.m.
Dont know about Hockenbury.
On the school board there are two candidates for three positions. Reese and Woodard are running again. Squires is not running again, so there is no one running for her seat now.
If only two run, the board would appoint a new member in July.
Current terms last through June.

I would call it the ideal state or slate. Two candidates for every open seat on the commission. Clearly, there are choices.

Not sure of the final nose count on the school board. The incumbents have not made themelves targets on any issue and should get re-elected.

No mention of the Cowley Trustees lately.

There are a few open issues. Both USD and city have passed recent tax issues for projects. The right leadership in a tough economy could prove to be a boon for the citizens.

Bad choices and no one guarding the public checkbook or holding staff feet to the fire and it could be the beginning of a nightmare on Elm, Washington, Central AND Summit streets. And all the other streets too.

Thanks to you folks for offering to step up and take the risk.

JJ could you please let us know if there is any at all going to be any liability insurance cost to the city for this dope dog and what the cost will be

The city should already have liability insurance, although the dog would probably cause it to rise in cost.

A dog in this case, is considered a police officer. It would raise it about whatever having another officer would cost.

Well, you normally don't have to worry about normal police officers biting people (well, sometimes), so I'm sure the dog will carry more liability than an officer. The dog should make them enough money to cover it though.

When did the Police Department become a for profit agency?

Well, why can't we give the police dog a chance? Might as well give it a try for awhile and see what happens. A dog is faster than the human, can better track the scent of a missing child or a criminal hiding out. I'm gonna take a wild guess that our police force is smart enough that if the dog is not a big enough benifit to the force, then they will not continue to use a police dog in the future. If you're wondering those things about insurance on the dog, call or email Wallace, i'm sure he'll be happy to answer your questions. I do when I really want to know.
