Bryant Hardware is now closed.
Zach Posted the following on this blog on another post awhile ago.
Here is what he posted.
Today Bryant Hardware is no more. It was a shock to me as well not in the fact that I didn't know it was happening but that I didn't know it would happen so soon. The reason I appologize is because I didn't live up to the standards of Bryant Hardware. I could not maintain the Yes We Have it motto, I did not always provide the best of help and quickly I found I could not compete with the big box stores. I'm sorry that many feel I helped stop Lowes from coming here. It would have been another hardware option that could have helped better serve the communitys needs. That being said I would also like to say thank you. Thank you to the community for shopping local and for giving my store a shot, thank you to all the wonderful people and personalities that frequented my door, thank you to the other businesses that stood behind me, most of all thank you for allowing me to be a part of Ark City. Though I don't know what the future has in store for me job wise I want everyone to know I am proud to be from Ark City and I will continue to strive to make this the best place on Earth to live. I will continue to lead the skate group and remain a possitive role model in their lives, I will still coach as many little league teams as I have time for in order to teach sportsmanship to the younger generation, and I will continue to speak out when I think anyone is being wronged. I am here to stay, my son is here, my home is here, and my friends are here. This is the town I love and I will remain here. I appologize one last time for taking the direction of this blog the wrong way but I needed to say that. Best wishes to all.

I went in there a few times and always walked out empty handed. And they wer usually too busy talking with one another to help me. The times I did get someone to help me was when the older gentleman was working, and he was very nice and helpful. They still didn't have the part I was looking for, but at least he was nice and helpful. I think Zach just wasn't the customer service type.
What, no going out of business sale?
Yeah, he pretty much ignored me too. When you run retail, the customer must, must always be number one. No matter what.
You guys are being jerks.
Maybe I should delete this type post.
Get em JJ. Zach, best of luck to you. Maybe the big guy has something different in mind for you! :)

JJ, with your new live bloging and paying attention to city hall, thought you were improving. However this comment makes you the "Jerk".
The only thing more despicable than kicking a man when he's down is to do it anonymously. Zach always posts as himself. Why don't you try providing a business or service and see if you can succeed.
Whats funny is that you two losers are on here picking on him now. He posted that it is over, and losing his store is probably like losing a family member.
How would you like it if he came to you when your Dad died and told you, well I guess you weren't the caring type, if you had made stop smoking you could have had longer.
Everything he had was on the line with the store, his past and his future. Don't you think he did everything he could to help the store survive?
It is funny you mention a sale, I'm sure you would love to feast on the carcass of his store like a greedy vulture. Everybody wants something for nothing, huh?
The phrase "There is no free lunch" has never been more appropriate. That discounted hammer or drill you want to get your stubby fingers on represents his sacrifice. How much is it worth?
I was one of the first two. I surely did not mean to kick him. People wonder why businesses go under. Was it Wallyworld, the economy, bad management, or something else? I wish him well, and God obviously has other things in mind for him.
It would be easy to be a jerk about it, but my point was that he could have done better had he changed his business practices. I don't see either poster as being jerks. The first complimented his help, the second offered insight.
I can think of many more despicable things than anonymously using my right to free speech: selling illegal narcotics (allegedly), and stealing copyrighted material spring to mind.
I still think it was a totally classless thing to do.
You can always find fault.
When someone has been shot down, is not the time to tell them to wear armor.
My personal opinion on what JJ said was that now was not the time to bring up the negative. Seems like Zach is down hearted and there was no need to bring such things up.
I for one, think maybe it would be nice for other downtown business owners to hear why Bryants failed, so they can improve themselves.
I see nothing wrong with polite discussion on why it didn't work out for Zach when it had worked for so many years before he took over. Maybe even Zach could learn from it.
So, does Zach still own the building that the gun store is in, or does the bank own it? What happens if they sell it out from under them?

You guys need to get your facts straight. The stored struggled many years before Zach took over.
Thanks to all for the advice. I'm sorry my service wasn't up to standards. I appologized for this already once but I do so again. At least I can say I tried though so I have no regrets. I wish the bank, the people of Ark City, and the next owner (whatever business they may run) the best of luck. Thanks for the words on encouragement but I am not down. May not have sunk in yet though.
I had been in a few times lately, not as much as I should have, but a few times.
I always found Zach to be corteuos and helpfull.
I don't think it was his fault.
The first two anonymous posters, were just stating facts. It's often called atttiude and guide lines that go with certain postions. Somewhat akin to our Mayor. How proud we should be. BTY, I own a business in this City and much of my compitition is the City. If you were a business owner you would understand.
Who cares about that stupid gun store? Hope it closes down to
ooohh, a liberal. haha

Double Eagle Firearms will remain open. We do appreciate your kind words and your support :)
I am sorry to see Bryant's close. I shopped there when I could. I was always waited on promptly, and they often had just what I needed. I don't beleive I have shopped anywhere in town that always had just what I needed. I hope that he finds something else quickly.
His has been the voice of reason in the skate board mess. I am glad he will continue working with this and with the kids sports teams.
So glad to hear the gunstore is staying open. Hope they will be a fixture of downtown for many years to come.
@ Zach
I am sorry to hear about your store but I wish you luck on your future endeavors!!

Good luck, Z.

I am not a local business owner, but would have like to been. I'm assuming you refer to the red tape and sometimes ridiculous legislation which keeps our hands tied and discourages prosperity? If local laws do not shut you down, a state law probably will. I wish they would just loosen up and start promoting small businesses for a change!
Bryant's Hardware is the only Hardware store I've ever given a cr@p about. It was the essence of Ark City. I was very sad when my friend Alan passed away and now I'm saddened by the closing of the store.
I understand it. The people in Ark City can be very unsupportive. I've seen it first hand. If you don't have product sales, you don't have rent, salaries, taxes, interest, etc. It all adds up.
Zach: For a man your age, you've done a helluva good job. Don't let the turkeys get you down.
Good Luck.
Who is Patrick?
Sends out defaming emails, bashing commissioners behind their backs then
lies about it (coward, sneak).
Owns no property, lives in the basement of Mom’s house and she helps
support him (phony).
Claimed all of the transparency issues came from him not Margolius (liar).
Even the paper knows the puppet masters gave him a jerk causing the
flip-flop on the hospital board size (manipulated).
He had nothing to do with the neighborhood counsel that was Smith
(despicable).
Patrick voted yes on every item for the last two years, including the
water bill and the crash tax (bobble head).
None of the above nor any thing he has done in 4 years show any leadership
qualities, (toady).
He is making a mockery of the system (embarrassment).
The Ark City Tea Party
Hey, Byte -
That quote is Huxley, with a nod to Blake, not Jim Morrison. Morrison used it often without attribution. Points for trying, though. You and DQ should get together and try to impress one another with your late 60's counterculture references.
"You and DQ should get together and try to impress one another with your late 60's counterculture references."
What the he77 am I, a potted plant?
Can't I be insulted along with DQ and Byte?
Good Company.

We don't know."

Who is the Patrick basher, and why doesn kk let those posts stay and others like it are deleted?
Is there an "Ark City Tea Party"?
I saw some little girls having a tea party on their porch the other day. i wonder if that's them?

I dont know about KK.
But, the reason i deleted it was that it was signed by someone, who did not write it.
They reposted it without the name on it, so i let it go.
Still wonder if i should have deleted it.
It is just a nasty personal attack that serves no purpose.
I cannot edit posts. Its all or nothing.
Just a legal thing.
JJ often stirs the pot- I think it makes him feel more LIKE a man. As for Zach, it is a shame- I grew up here and Bryants is part of the fabric of town whether you can still shop there or not. I add the last part because things did go downhill- but that started before Zach took over- he was just the poor guy who went down with the ship, but it was still a comfort to see the store as you pass. I hope that something worthy is put in its place. This is a sad day for Ark City and a wake up call for the city. If they continue to raise rates and the economy is on the downslide other businesses and the citizens in general will leave Ark City and we will dry up.

And what does it make you feel like to criticize people behind the Anonymous name.
Sure makes you look macho to me. :)

I would call you a quotation nazi but it appears I have caused you to read. I encourage literacy therefore I will let this one go for now. Consider it my good works for the week. Pass it on.

The future is an unknown, but a somewhat predictable unknown. To look to the future we must first look back upon the past. That is where the seeds of the future were planted. I never think of the future. It comes soon enough.
-Albert Einstein
"Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but its sinking
And racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death"
-Roger Waters

if you have suggestions about ways the city can be friendlier to small business, why don't you share those ideas with your favorite commissioner
