Ice storm

Just listening to the scanner. Lots of power lines down. Lots of limbs down.
Trees are catching on fire. If a house is not on fire, firemen are not going to respond. They are answering too many calls and can't get to them all.
Not many accidents, but somewhere around K-15 a couple people ran into a ditch. They were not hurt, but had to stand on top of their car until help came. Good thing they had a cell phone.
On one street, power lines are down and the fire dept. is telling them they are going to have to shut off power to their house.
Could be a cold night.

How is everyone doing.
Ill be checking back.

I wish westar or the city or someone would seriously consider getting some of the electric lines around here buried in the groud so we don't have to deal with power outages every year or two. But I am sure our rates would triple if they actually did it.

Hey James,
Can you post any limb pickup info? Thanks.

I thought he asked how every one was doing, not what they could find to gripe about.

I have only lived in my neighborhood for a couple years and don't know alot of the neighbors yet. I was plesantly surprised how the neigborhood came together and helped each other during the ice storm.

This is what makes A.C. such a great place to live.

Thank you to the citizens of A.C. for being such wonderful caring people.

I'm impressed with how fast the citizens of AC get messes cleaned up. Most do not wait around for handouts, they just GET 'ER DONE!

I am frustrated by the problems I have with Westar during storms such as this one. I have family members with health problems and these outages cause equipment to be useless and make for a strain on them. I pay Westar quite a bit of money every month. I have paid to get all of my tree limbs away from the power lines and my neighbors have too. I have even paid for work to be done in the alley on trees that are not technically mine, paying some for some of the neighbors responsibilities. Yet still we sit in the dark for 36+ hours this weekend due to transformers blowing up 3 times during the weekend. I guess I will be spending hours on the phone with Westar over the next couple weeks trying to figure out what else I can do.

There was 3000 people without power during the ice storm. There was alot of out of town Westar employee's here to help assist with restoring power and they have been working non-stop through the weekend-I have seen them everywhere. If you have family who has medical conditions you need to call Westar and tell them you have family with medical conditions because they try to make those situations priority.

I received this notice from Steve Archer this morning.

So that you are aware in case you get any questions, the City plans to have the F street burn pit open from 8 AM to 6 PM Monday thru Saturday this week and next week. The City is asking all citizens to place their Tree limbs and debris at the curb if they want the city crews to pick it up. You will have until Monday April 6th to get it set out. Debris will be picked up this week and continue until it is all picked up. If they have any questions have them call 441-4460 Central Shop.

Thanks.

Yeah, we got that at newscow yesterday. Thanks for trying to help us....

Not everyone knows about newscow. Thankyou Scott.

I feel sorry for you if you depend on newscow for much.

I don't DEPEND on it, nor did I remotely allude to that. But I needed to know where to put my limbs, and Traveler had nothing. Newscow had all the info I needed. Thanks for signing your first and last name, there, Mr. Kelley. You are truly a friend to the downtrodden.

Well well well, some people just have to be mean, for those of us that DON'T depend on the darn "NEWSCOW" it was good to know that Scott was here to let us know. So if you ALREADY knew what to do with your dam limbs why did you even make an appearance on this blog if "NEWSCOW" had already informed you? If you knew already then Mr Margolis (not Kelly) wasn't talking to you was he then? Sheesh....big ol freeking cry baby!

I know the City has been looking at ways to increase revenue and I have an idea.

They should buy some wood and have the people who are working on a "work release" program for the county build trash can holders.

Make it a city ordiance that everyone has to buy one for their trash cans.

I am tired of trying to drive down the street or alley and having to dodge trash cans all over the place.

I see them in the streets and in the alleys on a typical day and owners are too lazy to go pick them up and put them back in their yard.

FINALLY. My power just came back up tonight, Monday the 30th. Maybe I'll call and tell them I have sick relatives on ventilators next time so I can jump ahead in line.

If your family does have to depend on ventilators or other medical needs, then I would suggest taking it upon YOURSELF to make sure that you have a back up system. I am certain if there you can't afford to buy one there may be a charity that could assist you with the cost of getting a generator. Some times we have to take care of ourselves in time of natural disaster because every one knows that "you" are the only one you can count on in a natural disaster. Yes, this power loss has happened many times in the past, this should be all the more reason to prepare on your own if you have family that has special needs. There should always be a back up plan....always.

Yep. Or just jump in front of the westar trucks and stop them.
