Just a tangent

Click on the title of this blog for a link to a Time Magazine article.
It is very long and laborious, but it is good reading.
It is about how the leader of Brazil has that country doing very well in a world of economic crisis and turmoil.

He is considered something of a leftist, but is very moderate.
Above all, he is a pragmatist.
He apparently is taking the best of conservative and liberal ideas and doing what works.
That is kinda what Obama claims he is doing or says he wants to do. Maybe we should look past partisan politics and give him a chance?

I really believe the biggest problem we have - as ive said before - is partisan politics itself. We have conservative and liberal sides who want to rule, and who want power. There's nothing wrong with that, but you cant make progress in the middle of a power struggle.
Neither side really wants a solution, and so our depression grows deeper.
The thing is, neither side is right. Both have strengths and weaknesses. The biggest weakness of both is that they are more into power than progress.

If a political party could be developed that took the best of both, it might appeal to more people, and might do a better job.
The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and over and expecting to get different results. Choosing either side is just doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. But also, choosing a third party just because it is a third party, isnt a good idea either.
Where are the politicians who can see past partisan politics? I dont know, but they might be out there if we look hard enough.

Thats my rant for a Tuesday. The Time article is good.
Anyone want to talk about this?

There are some issues that the two parties will NEVER see eye to eye on, and that is what keeps the two systems going. I don't see it ever changing unless our freedoms are taken away and we are forced to. And what kind of country would that be?

I agree with the first poster. We should have competition, but I think the 2 main political parties should try a little harder to work together no matter what, especially in times of crisis. We do need to do something different though, because its obvious that something has not worked. When other countries are looking up to us as leaders(maybe not so much any more), yet we still have Americans homeless and/or starving. What? These greedy, money hungry million and billionaires are griping about paying more taxes then my lowly just barely in the low middle class income? I do believe there are times we should help other countries, but at some point we have to take care of US citizens too. I will never say that I'm not proud to be American but I will say that I'm getting a little embarrased about the behavior of our country.

.................

Two questions you need to ask yourself -

Would I want to sacrifice my beliefs morals and lifestyle to live like the rich?

Can you prevent people from making bad choices? Like drugs or selfish self-centered behaviors?
Would you choose to be homeless?

I didn't say I wanted our country to be like Brazil, I stated that something different needs to be done and no, I don't really care to live like the rich, I'm perfectly grateful and fine to be where I'm at. I question why corporate america and the upper income people wants to b***h about paying more taxes. I'm not agreeable to the extreme of taking away from the rich and giving to the poor, but I would think common sense would be the more a person makes, the more they should be taxed. You're second question I am not sure if my thoughts on it are being taken out of context. So instead of answering the question, I would like to ask you, what you think would solve the problem? Do you feel good about children going to bed at night with an empty stomache?

First, I am not necesarily a Bill Clinton fan but even he said there were plenty of people (rich) world-wide that were willing to give money to good causes if they could be sure it was used wisely. The fact that they have money does not make them evil! In many cases they didn't start out that way and worked hard to get there with many sacrifices.
You could do the same!
Second, they could give all they have away and never stop poverty!
Children don't get to pick their parents - if they ever do - there will no doubt be a lot of bigger families for some and alot more that are childless!
I do agree with meals at school and food banks and private sector relief such as churches for needy who have fallen through the cracks of society or no options like the elderly.
I think past that you have to look at how society has changed.
The lack of responsibilty and morality. Then how that escalates form one generation to the next.

I think the Bible put it something like this:

The Sins of the first will be visited (revisited) on the second and third generations.

They are only words that warn of specific actions. The rest comes down to choices!

OK, I think you are missing my point or I am not thourghly explaining myself. I just don't feel like detailing an extremely long post here, but we share CLOSE to the same basic idea. I have trouble with the idea of elderly and disabled trying to make it on a few hundred a month. I have trouble with the idea of how all these laid off people are gonna make it. I have trouble with the idea of sick people that have no insurance. Or have insurance but can't afford the damn deductibles. I am not mad because someone makes more money then I do. I am not a material person and I don't have car payment and house payments. No, we can't help everyone until they want to help them selves, but it sure wouldn't hurt to give a helping hand to those that are trying. Do you think?

Do I think?

What do you think I've been trying to tell you about all the petty name calling and choosing sides - instead of addressing the real problems!
I don't think the government is the answer through taxes or welfare or socaialism or communism.
It is because we think they are that has gotten us to this point.
Locally and Nationally.
The BIG QUESTION IS WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
YOU got first and I'll chime in and maybe just maybe we can get someone else to get onboard ...

We need to have leaders with commons sense on all levels regardelss of parties or what they are leading.

A local example..not the city for once but last night's Traveler had eight people from the high school accepting an award. It sounded from the article that they had journeyed to San Francisco to get the award. Tonight, the school board says it will have to cut the budget and are cutting summer programs.

I know the award is a big deal and perhaps the administrators were only there very briefly but that is still money that should have gone to kids during this time of tight finances. I am sure they will deny teachers educational travels because of budget cuts. I just don't get it. I am just hoping that perhaps the article was wrong and only one person really traveled to San Francisco.

Why no story about Dr. Zumwalt being chosen as the new principal at the high school?

Hi
I am visiting from Arizona, i was board today and reading about this Mayor you have that has a construction company and dose work for the city.
I remember a few years ago we had the same thing happen, it seemed that the Bids that were accepted were actually smaller but the interesting thing was that there was always a clause that read cost plus in his bids, also this contractor was learning how to do these jobs at the cities expense
How does your city Judge Competence and ability? What criteria do you have for allowing bids and do you publicly announce jobs open to bid, our paper had a section for open bid notice and who won them.
Our criminal was not a Mayor just a commissioner, but he had one of the department heads in his pocket and that department head overlooked the cost plus issues and forced his lower employees to lie and arrange the jobs to meet his abilities, when things started falling apart, the crooked department head made sure that every bid was put across the commissioners desk even ones he was not qualified to bid on, just to show he didn’t get all the bids.
It was quite a cat and mouse routine until the commissioners wife ratted them all out, seems she had a drinking problem and went to Mexico spending all his money on drugs and gambling, I see that the Editor interviewed the Mayor, I thought that was a bit strange, of course anyone who actually knows anything isn’t going to talk, Jobs are hard to find nowadays.
I think the city should interview their employees and get prepared for potential lawsuits as big as this seems to be I am sure someone will sue someone.

"I don't know when I have seen such horrible spelling and grammar."

I guess you've never read any of Zach's posts then. I'm pretty sure he graduated from ACHS.

@ anonymous from Arizona...

Some of us appreciate your input and don't care about spelling, just ignore the hateful and don't take it to heart.

"Obama getting slammed by Democrats and Republicans--he must be doing something right."

Or wrong! Earmarks anyone?

Anonymous said...

" I will not sign any bill containing ear marks" Quote from your new President. His lips were moving when he said that weren't they?

Anonymous said...

yeah, the bill they just passed has 8,500 earmarks.

That's nearly as bad as Daddy Bush's "Read My Lips".

Anonymous said...

"Why isn't there more hangars at Strother?"

Because nothing at Strother is about airplanes.

Coming soon to a hospital near you.

Just can't wait.
