Kanyon is having a live radio show on KACY with the commission candidates at 5pm all this week and on next Monday.

Some of the submitted questions are below. If you have any more you'd like to see asked, there is room for a few more. If you submit those to Kanyon at the email at the bottom, you might have a chance to have you question asked of the candidates.

5) Would you be in favor or opposed to a rotation bid of a city attorney position every 2 or 4 years?

7) The south end of Arkansas City is an area that has more than it's share of structures in disrepair. There are areas where there is no drainage on the streets, no curbs, no gutters, do you see areas where the commission if you were elected/re-elected to serve could improve this.

9) Explain your thoughts on IRB, and TIF what and where you see them as being of benefit.

10) Arkansas City seems to have an extremely high concentration of cancer plaguing our community, what if anything do you think as a commissioner can be done?

14) The Cowley county humane society which is supposed to be non-profit, ended up as a burden to the tax payers of Arkansas City. What do you think of this and how would you restructure it, if at all?

17) Have you ever considered a different form of government here in Arkansas City? Possibly making the mayor an elected position.

25) Should each elected body review the complete list of ordinances to see if they are duplicated, current, and or necessary?

27) How are we prioritizing which roads will be worked on under the new sales tax? Should it by safety, traffic, or citizen complaints or how the city has chosen to do it as it is now?

30) What about the property that is owned by the city on the south end of town? What should be done there? Who should do it? What would you propose?

31) Some cites are giving away free property to young families that will move into the area. Is that something that you think is a good idea, not a good idea and why do you feel that way?

35) Does an anonymous comment carry as much weight as a signed comment with you?

36) A comprehensive line item budget review is something that other cities do, what do you feel about a line item review of the budget and why?

40) The term outside the box is used to describe great ideas what is your outside the box thinking for Arkansas City?

Just got off the phone with the Attorney General's Office and verified this information is accurate:

Consumer Alert: New Vishing and Phishing Scams Reported in Kansas
March 27, 2009 -- Attorney General Steve Six is alerting Kansans to a new scam that has already emerged in Brown and Nemaha counties. Recently Kansans have received emails, text messages, and phone calls alerting them that their bank accounts and/or bank debit cards have been restricted and need to be reactivated; they are then directed to call a phone number or log onto a website and provide sensitive information to reactivate their account.

Consumers are asked to provide their account number, card number, expiration date, security code, and their Personal Identification Number. These emails, text messages, and phone calls are scams. Banks and other financial institutions will never contact customers by email or phone.

Law enforcement in both counties reported the scam; however it may be taking place in other parts of the state. The Attorney General's Office warns Kansans not give out any personal information over the phone or through emails or text messages.

Consumers should never give out any personal information over the phone or through email without first confirming the caller's identity. If the caller asks the consumer for their credit card company, credit card number, checking account number, social security number, it is probably a scam. Your bank and credit institutions should already have that information.

If you have received a similar call or email, contact the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division at 1(800) 432-2310. Consumers should also consider notifying their banking institution and local law enforcement.

Just FYI. Scott Margolius

Gee Thanks Scott!

As typical you are several months late with the info. Try keeping in touch with the rest of us.

Thanks Scott for remembering us. I guess some people don't have a TV set this is a new scam that the Attorney Generals office just posted.

As for 'this has been going on for months,' we still have people that are falling for it though. People are still giving information over the phone to crooks.

I am glad not every one that writes on this blog is as negitive as you are.

If you attack everyone who comes on here to try to help or make their opinions known, then people will not come here.

Just because you don't agree with someone's politics is no reason to be rude.

No, it is not. Mr. Kelley is performing this public service for one reason only. And it's not to inform the people. The 20 people who read this blog know what's up. Scott's supporters are gonna cry "Don't be rude, he's a great man trying to watch out for his neighbors." Intelligent people will reply as those at 2:35 and 7:32 did..."this is not anything new, how stupid do you think we lower/middle are?" Pathetic.

Look, I'm not voting for the guy either.. he made his bed with the Lowe's deal.. but I'm not going to be rude about it. He can still give us information, or post his opinion, just like all of us do regularly.

Jean Snell, friend?

This is probably not the first you have heard any of this, lest we soon forget:

When Jean first arrived, his former employer Colby, KS called to thank us for taking him, they had all the friendship they could handle. Now as the teachers of USD 470 come out with all of their tails of friendship no one can believe that he came in last for his first bid for a commissionership, what were we thinking?

Yes it’s true he sometimes fails to tell the truth but that’s because the truth is not always right. He had to exaggerate by over 1000 about how many times the internet had been viewed, otherwise he could not get his friend a job, the 100K plus spent by the school was for friendship, therefore worth it.

The episode of the sexual harassment against the maintenance supervisor cost USD 470 way over 100 grand. He was Jean’s pal and being his pal will be an expense to someone. When he failed to inform the school board of his spending a substantial amount on a consultant, it was in the name of friendship. He saved his friends on the board from the embarrassment for not understanding.

The most endearing and lasting impact of Jean is in technology! Our friend eliminated most all forms of technical training thank goodness. The shop class doesn’t build a house any more, or chairs or cabinets in fact we don’t have woodworking, or welding, or machine shop, that’s because its best to send all of the kids to college, just like him, working is for suckers. We did get a new Tec Lab that was never used and sold at auction for pennies on the dollar.

These are just a few of the acts of friendship we have endured I mean were blessed with. Jean should continued to be the BFF of the Burford and not so much the rest of us, we don’t have that kind of money.

If there are any doubts, check it out, Google in ‘USD 470 lawsuit’ for a start.

Since you know him so well and his reason is not about informing the public, what is it pray tell?
