I'd liek to know who makes the decision to sound the tornado sirens in Ark City. Because of them, every nursing home in town had to move their residents to the safety location even though there was no tornado. Thanks for jumping the gun and scaring the crap out of a lot of peope. Glad your finger's not on the nuke button.
They sounded the sirens because there were tornadoes threatening to come down. The news (channel 12), was telling everyone in AC to take shelter well before the sirens went off. We were in a potential path of travel. Sorry you were put out.
And if they hadn't sounded the sirens and a tornado would have hit the nursing home what would you have blogged? Sounds like things worked just as they are supposed to work. The residents were all in a safer place, the sirens warned every one and no one got hurt! We were blessed it missed us!
I am with you. I was completely caught off guard even though I received early warning of the potential bad weather. I had to move a bunch of stuff off my basement door to get it open. I am glad it happened and I now promise myself to stop procrastinating with my garage sale stuff. Its going out to the garage!
To the poster from 5:35 Be grateful that you have sirens in this town! Last place I lived in didn't and for a town that 'never gets tornados', we sure had enough of them and NO WARNING. As for having to move everyone on short notice, think of it as a test run for preparedness. How did it go by the way?
Had there been no siren, the first poster would have complained about them NOT setting it off. The emergency management people here are good people. They dont turn on the alarm often. When they do, there is a good chance of a tornado. One was sighted in the area.
People should be a little more mindful of the weather situations around them. Alot of people I know brush it off when they hear threats of tornados. I can laugh now, but the panic I saw of some of the people scurrying inside to shelter, when those sirens went off, was not funny at all.
Was thinking of the civil war. the war between the states. or whatever you guys call it here :) dont really want to get into the debate of what it was about, but to me it was about states rights.
Unfortunately, i think the outcome of the war kinda decided the states rights issue.
I appreciate the warning. They don't misuse it so be grateful it is there. You must be one of those lazy a$$ nurse aides that works for her paycheck and not the people she takes care of otherwise you wouldn't talk like the residents are a commodity. Its your job to take care of them- quit bitching please.

You are a crazy person. It is a big inconvenience to the residents of the nursing home, and it scares them a lot. For no reason. THAT was the point. No, I don't work at one of the nursing homes, but I know people who are in charge of them.
I hope Obama's ambition to be like Lincoln does not come true in civil war form. The thought of brothers fighting brothers is not one I'd like to picture.
I have been at the Traveler for 4 years. I have been in the newspaper business longer than that. I came here from South Carolina. Apart from that, I am an unapologetic Jesus Freak. I am not, however, Republican.

We were blessed and "thank you" for sounding the sirens.
We quickly realized we didn't have the required safety kit in our basement so that was a wakeup call and we will fix that. This was a good trial run!
But there was no tornado in Cowley county..

Kansas Sovereignty Bill

Still stuck in committee, as in NOT PASSED!!
Note to anyone remotely interested, please verify with your own 2 eyes anything that you are told by elected officials or even city for that matter.

Better safe than sorry.

HERE is a good story for you JJ. 20 States have passed sovereignty laws in response to Obama's ideas to CHANGE this country. Oklahoma is one of them.
State's rights all over again?
What do you mean by all over again, JJ?

Sometimes when we have a big thunderstorm, people complain about it not being used.
No matter what you do, someone will complain.
JJ, do you thinkt he civil war would never happen again?
I think it could happen again.
I dont think it will be by state or geographical area again.

Speaking of Obama's ambition to be like Lincoln..
I wonder if he goes to the theater much?
