re-posting sunday morning

Psalm 32
1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
2 Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.

Confession is good for the soul, people say. I think it is. It is for our own benefit.
The first people, Adam and Eve, covered themselves with leaves after they had sinned, because they realized they were naked.
The clothes were not the issue, but what it symbolized.
God covered them with animal skins, which was a symbol of the blood sacrifice, and the sacrifice of Christ.
The story of Adam and Eve has huge theological significance.
When we sin, we distance ourselves from God. Just like in any human relationship, you tend to not want to hang around people too much if you have wronged them and think they might be mad at you. There is also a pride issue. No one wants to have people thinking bad of them.
God covered Adam and Eve's sin with animal skins, which was a picture of the covering he gives us with the death and resurrection of Christ.
The second verse of the psalm is significant too. When confronted with his sin, Adam blamed Eve, Eve blamed the devil. (the snake.) and the snake didn't have a leg to stand on.
This caused tension in their relationship with God, and no doubt, in their relationship with each other. That is the result of having deceit in our hearts.
They tried to hide their sin- with leaves, but God's covering really works.

Deceit in our spirits also speaks to deceiving ourselves. Some people won't acknowledge their sin, not even to themselves, so they deceive other and themselves. Then there is the ultimate solution, which is to deny God and the existence of the spirit world.
But as the psalmist says, blessed - or happy - is the person whose sins have been covered, who is not "in debt" because of them.

Confession is basically just admitting to having done wrong, and agreeing with God that it is wrong.
Some people say you should also pledge to not do that sin again, but I really don't agree with that. First, you do not know what tomorrow will bring. Second, it sets you up for failure. It puts pressure on you, so if you fail, then you feel worse, but if you succeed, then you may become prideful and be in sin anyway.
It just gives the devil a stick to beat you over the head with.

Confession is the way to a clear soul and mind. Happy too is the person who is not trying to hide their sin. Im not so sure that means hiding it from other people, as im not sure if that matters. But hiding it from God, or from ourselves, is a path to destruction, as the rest of the psalm says.

Man JJ, the fact that you think one kid winning the state wrestling title is breaking news makes it obvious that you didn't live here in the 80's.

well lets give the kid his due
a state title is a state title ...

Off Topic:

You should go to Marketwatch.com and download the Warren Buffet Letter to Shareholders.

He goes into detail on the sub-prime loans - how it started and got out of control. Also how it might impact his business.

He also discusses in detail derivatives - how they made it difficult for companies and regulators to assess risk and manage their companies.

Long but good read and he also has a unique style of writing.

BTW: Berkshie Hathaway shares dropped from $90,343/shr. to $77,793/shr.

The first poster might try showing a little consideration to the fact that this kid took AC to state. I for one am proud of his state title!

Don't get me wrong, the kid deserves a lot of credit for winning, but breaking news? We used to win state every year back in the late 80's. Not just one kid, the whole team.

Coach Jackson was the man.

Question about breaking news.
I think a state title deserves special mention.
But what do you all think as far as what deserves the "breaking news" title?
Should we put just anything up there?
Or should we only put "significant" things up there in breaking news?

Well, I don't have any problem with it being called breaking news. James, you know there is going to be a select few that has issues with whatever the Traveler does. Besides mentioning achievements, it is also a moral booster.

I think it is breaking news. The kid did good. If we celebrate more when the kids around AC do good, maybe they will win more stuff. The past is interesting, but the future is what is important.

"Question about breaking news."

Great job for the youngster and his
coach(es).

Now, don't get me wrong, and don't want to be critical...it is a nice accomplishment and to be commended.
But, that being said, I personally would hardly consider it "breaking news".

You asked.

Winning state debate, however, was not breaking news.....

Maybe we should remember we live in Ark City so there are days that grass growing is the headlines. Breaking News is whatever draws peoples attention that they would want to read I think. Is there any way to see how many people viewed the wretler story jj? May be more breaking news then some would think.

Yes! I asked,
I really want to know what you think.
I wasnt being sarcastic:)

I think you should reserve breaking news for major stories, like banks getting robbed, fake ID vans getting caught, people getting murdered, etc. Lord knows we have enough of that around here nowdays to report on.

I, for one, miss the days when grass growing was about our only news to cover.

Ahhh...may those days return to sooner rather than later. :)

Big news stories were so few and far between back in the day that I was on the front page of the paper twice as a kid, simply because the photographer didn't have anything better to take a picture of that day than a toe headed little kid playing.

When i was a new reporter in arkansas the news was so slow, I did a story about how I couldn't find anything to write about.
My editor was so hard up, he ran it on the front page.
