Disposing of yard trash

The city plans to have the F Street burn pit open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday this week and next.
The city is asking all citizens to place their tree limbs and debris at the curb if they want city crews to pick it up. You will have until April 6 to get it set out.
Debris will be picked up this week and continue until it is all picked up.
For more information or questions, call 441-4460.

Kanyon is having a live radio show on KACY with the commission candidates at 5pm all this week and on next Monday.

Some of the submitted questions are below. If you have any more you'd like to see asked, there is room for a few more. If you submit those to Kanyon at the email at the bottom, you might have a chance to have you question asked of the candidates.

5) Would you be in favor or opposed to a rotation bid of a city attorney position every 2 or 4 years?

7) The south end of Arkansas City is an area that has more than it's share of structures in disrepair. There are areas where there is no drainage on the streets, no curbs, no gutters, do you see areas where the commission if you were elected/re-elected to serve could improve this.

9) Explain your thoughts on IRB, and TIF what and where you see them as being of benefit.

10) Arkansas City seems to have an extremely high concentration of cancer plaguing our community, what if anything do you think as a commissioner can be done?

14) The Cowley county humane society which is supposed to be non-profit, ended up as a burden to the tax payers of Arkansas City. What do you think of this and how would you restructure it, if at all?

17) Have you ever considered a different form of government here in Arkansas City? Possibly making the mayor an elected position.

25) Should each elected body review the complete list of ordinances to see if they are duplicated, current, and or necessary?

27) How are we prioritizing which roads will be worked on under the new sales tax? Should it by safety, traffic, or citizen complaints or how the city has chosen to do it as it is now?

30) What about the property that is owned by the city on the south end of town? What should be done there? Who should do it? What would you propose?

31) Some cites are giving away free property to young families that will move into the area. Is that something that you think is a good idea, not a good idea and why do you feel that way?

35) Does an anonymous comment carry as much weight as a signed comment with you?

36) A comprehensive line item budget review is something that other cities do, what do you feel about a line item review of the budget and why?

40) The term outside the box is used to describe great ideas what is your outside the box thinking for Arkansas City?
