Inauguration

I was just wondering if there are any local events for the presidential Inauguration next Tuesday.
Anyone know about anything going on?

I know it's a big waste of taxpayer money that we could surely be using in better ways.

And how is it that Obama gets to make his oath on the same bible as Lincoln, when no other President since Lincoln has been able to do so? Is it simply due to the fact that he is black? Or half black?

@ 3:30

I think it's because he is awesome.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, that must be it. not.

A better statement might be that we hope that he is awesome. Don't count the chickens before they hatch. He has done some things already that are earning my respect. Hope he continues.

maybe no one else asked for the lincoln bible ?
and remember the rumor that he was going to swear in on the quran ?

@ 3:55 and 3:58

Nope. He is awesomeness personified.

=)

"Awesomeness" and likability are the best qualifications to run the most powerful country in the world.

It's a good thing too, because that's all Obama has going for him.

(Yep, that's sarcasm.)

Traveler Editor said...

I hope he does well, we need him to do well to get the economy fixed
its time to put politics aside and move forward.
of course, ive been the cynical one who says it doesnt matter who is president .. the machine goes on with or without :)

I really do hope that Obama does the country good, but I just get so fed up with people who think he is the second coming. People like bytedaily who just say he's awesome, and think he's going to save the world.

His cabinet choices so far look good to me. And he is trying to do something, which I can't remember W trying to do anything in quite a while.

Anonymous said...

All he has to do is use Bush as an advisor.
Always ask Bush what to do. If Bush says one way, the go the opposite direction. An anti-Bush.

Could be the best president ever.

Anonymous said...

His choices look good, huh? Like an admitted Tax dodger running the Treasury?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090113/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/treasury_nominee

and a socialist as his new "Climate Czar" whatever that is. I'm looking forward to the new global warming tax we'll all have to pay.

http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/12/obama-climate-czar-has-socialist-ties/

Not the best choices from where I'm sitting.

I voted for him but he is starting to make me think he is some "diva" with his 9 millon dollar vacation house, looking for a pet for his girls (hoping to get one from an animal shelter) and ends up picking not one but two rather rare dogs. It is just a little insensitivy for all the things happening with the common people in this country right now to be flashing all of this in the media

Anonymous said...

If you think that's bad, wait till you see the inauguration!

It will make American Idol's finale look like romper room.

Not the best use of our money at this time IMO.

Never in all my years have I heard so much talk about an inauguration before it happened. Obama is the celebrity President, that's for sure.

To quote the great philosopher and future President Kinky Friedman, "Money can buy a dog, but it won't make its tail wag".

I can't believe that someone is dissing the pres for his choice of doggies he is buying his little girls. Shame on you. Grow up.

JJ you might see if the kinkster can come to your music shindig. He likes the area. One of the guys in his band is named "Wichita Culpepper".

Zach:

He would also make a very good role model for you. He can't spell, but he gets published in the New Yorker Magazine with all of them snooty intellecktuals. He loves rock music and doesn't take any crap from anybody. See any common ground?

Anonymous said...

I said he is making me a fan but I would like to remind everyone that after 9-11 the whole country was screaming for blood. Bad intell put us in Iraq (not all GW's fault) but the people turned on him pretty quick. I just want to see more action before I start saying best president ever. I hope he does great things. We the people need a hero, our kids need a leader they can look up to, and our nation needs a swift kick in the butt. I hope we have the man for the job. We shall soon find out.

Anonymous said...

Zach is right. After 9/11, Bush's approval rating was through the roof. America wanted to go to war, and they wanted vengeance. And rightfully so. The problems came when no WMDs were found, and it started to come out that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Now, if Bush had served up Osama like he did Hussein, then history would probably be more kind.

But Zach, I hope you realize that once Obama gets in ofice, your gun store next door will be regulated out of business.

Really not his fault? Seriously? He's the president and makes the calls... I blame him all the way. If Obama was to make the same mistake, You all would be on him like crazy!!! I read somewhere they had to have interns fill the seats at his last new conference. He will go down in history as the worst president!

Blah blah blah, Same old whine all the time!

Anonymous said...

I just hope these four years go by fast. I didnt vote for him, but he is our president now. We have no choice to stand behind him. (something all you Bush haters should think about!)

Dead Rabbit said...

A company doesn't crash because of one man. Bush did what he thought was best with the info he had. If you were told that a child had a gun in their locker wouldn't you want it at least investigated no matter how bad the intel was?

I don't own a gun store and Obama has sent their sales through the roof. Just saying.

Osamah is dead and burried in a mountain somewhere. (I think)

The gun business is booming right now due to the fact that Obama and all of his appointees are anti gun, and everyone figures a ban is forthcoming. That is great for right now, but in 6 months where will they be?

Dead Rabbit said...

Anyone care to place a wager on the gun store and Obama's gun ban? Some of you believe the president runs the country. Wow.

Anonymous said...

Look at all the anti gunners Obama has hired for his new administration. I can almost guarantee that we see bans along the lines of the Clinton assault weapon ban or worse. Why do you think everyone is stocking up?

Dead Rabbit said...

If guns are Obama's top priority then I say we must be in trouble already. A full auto ban won't really hurt business do to the fact that no one can afford full auto anyways.

Oh and to answer your question paranoya is why everyone is stock piling.

Do you really think he wants to hurt the economy more at this point and time?

Anonymous said...

"paranoya" iz 'sker-e.... Hahaha I love this blog sometimes!!

I do believe in my whole of heart that we have some major drama queens on here, You work girls. Own it- do your thing.. And snap.

OSAMA sent another tape out today- Brush up on facts boy. Although he wasn't seen, I think he might be dead also.... Who knows. But he has already went after Obama. He should get one thing clear, Obama WON'T let him go like Bush did.

Constructive and a good job of pretaining to the topic. MMMM Hmmmm!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Just like everyone else including YOU! JJ asked about local events- Not guns and what you thought about Obama. There hasn't been ONE mention about anything going on, Just a bunch of people crying about how awful he is and how he's going to take away guns.

Anonymous said...

But would you? I guess if Obama makes mistakes and all of his loyal fans (a great majority, apparently) refuse to admit he is wrong, then our country would be a better place? Is that positive attitude and denial JJ is always talking about really going to pull us through?

One thing for sure, the anti-Iraq and anti-Bush attitude of this country is not getting us anywhere.

@January 14, 2009 6:45 PM

Amazing that a post about the inauguration would bring up talks about the president. So apparently no one is allowed to post on these do to the fact that someone thinks we are drama queens. I don't know but for the most part until that point I thought it was a good conversation. Seeing as JJ has been joining in on the conversation then I guess he isn't too upset with the direction it has been heading. As for everyone crying I think I said I am growing to like the man. I see quite a few other posts calling him awesome. In fact you sir or mam are the one who seems to find name calling the way to go in this. You are what's wrong with this country. Way to go! I will say it again if you would like to personaly attack me could you click on the tiny picture of me in blog followers and do it on my posts so that you don't ruin a good conversation here? Please?
-----------------------------------
@ the actual topic

My likes about him include that he seems to be a man of the people and is willing to listen to public outcry. This is one of the things he ran on I believe and if gun sales are any indication of public outcry then it will be an instant test of his words.

From California state university:

During the week of Nov. 3, 2008 CNN reported that, according to FBI figures, the bureau received more than 374,000 requests for background checks on gun purchases, which was nearly a 49-percent increase over the same period in 2007.

The truth of the matter is that Obama supports the Second Amendment in protecting individual gun rights, so there is no need to go out and buy them. With a plummeting economy, gun legislation isn't a high priority.

According to a CNN report, Obama has been clear that his focus is on the economy, the growth of jobs, dealing with the health care crisis and our dependence on foreign oil and not on gun control.

See I like the man if these are his top priorities. It is easy to see that these are the actual problems that need dealt with first and foremost (in my opinion)

On my own blog I bring up how he dropped partor Rick Warren from the opening prayer which took a lot of guts and integrity in my books. There are things I don't like that he has done already but in interest of keeping this blog possitive I won't dwell on them.

(Apply hand on hip and head bob wherever you feel it is appropriate)

All you Bush bashers think on this: What do you think the country would look like now if Gore had won in 2000? Do you think he would have responded any differently to 9/11? Could he have, with the American people crying out for blood? What if we had not gone to war? Don't you think we would have been attacked again and again? I agree that Bush is not the brightest guy, but you have to admit that his presidency has been plagued from the start with terrorism. How would Gore have been any better? I don't believe he would have.

Anonymous said...

so i guess this means no one is doing anything special for the inauguration ?
:)

Yes, If Obama made a huge mistake of invading a country and killing innocent civilians, Opening a prison and filling it with innocent men and allowing them to be sexually assaulted, beat and even killed. If Obama was to spend so much a year on wars that our nation went broke.. I would dislike him and put him in the same box as Bush.

Although I don't feel like Obama would ever be that dumb, You never know. But I will give him the benefit of doubt, Just like I did with Bush. It's just sad that hardly anyone on here will extend the same to Obama. You guys have been bashing him from the word go and he hasn't even started on the job. It's pathetic.... I just hope JJ didn't start this blog to get things stirred up again, You have to ask yourself why he did, Knowing that most of you hate Obama.

If you go to moveon.org they have a list of local events going on.

Most of the comments have been fairly favorable toward Obama on here.
I was pretty clear as to why I posted it.
I wanted to know if anyone LOCALLY was doing anything.
That was the question.
Moveon.org has state and national events.
Is that clearly stated enough :)

Oh My God! You have fallen for the oldest trick in the book. You can't really be that naive.

And have you got ONE answer? NO!

i would like to withdraw my recomendation for Zach to be any kind of city leader, it just became obvious what he is capable of

Dead Rabbit said...

I'm capable of free thought and speech. Hopefully Obama supports these ideas I believe he does. I'm not running for anything but thanks for the support or lack there of. Carefull on the gun thing guys the NRA does write a lot of propaganda. Who benifits from all the talk of taking guns away? Yes I know I rent to a gun store but I think their business is sound and legit and will continue to be. I'm just saying with the problems our country faces it would dissappoint me if guns were the top priority of our new President, I don't think they will be. I hope peole aren't getting angry at me just because I think a little different than some of you. Remember for any good debate there must be two sides and that for every article saying something is great there is one saying that it is not.

(This not-so-political campaign brought to you by the fine folks of Zach's opinion. Be sure not to check the box that will not be next to anything related to him on your ballots in 2009. He isn't running.)

Traveler Editor said...

Oh i think we could do a lot worse than Zach.
Maybe we should write him in.
Maybe not in 09, but I think zach will run someday, and probably get elected.
We need people with passion and vision, and people who are not afraid to stand by their convictions.
Zach could do that.

Anonymous said...

I'd prefer someone with a better grasp of the English language, thank you very much.

Anonymous said...

I'll write him in, doesn't matter that he is not a perfect speller. What counts is that he has an open mind says what he thinks and listens to others. That much is clear!

Mr. Gore would have ran to the U.N. and asked for instructions.

no he would have gone to the internet he invented, and checked the UN's home page.
